Pros
- If observant , you can learn a lot about the industry. - Cafeteria meal provided at no cost. - Full time opportunities and benefits (dental, medical etc) - Monthly they have a "show" for the GM where many of the departments give praise to an employee, but if it were not mandatory, it would never happen. That employee has a chance at getting some cash by participating in games.
Cons
-Micro-management, management feels pressure from corporate and it then becomes a negative and hostile environment. Takes away from the empowerment of pleasing the guests when so many are questioning every step or decision made. - The management can be catty and clique-ish and information sharing is more on fellow colleagues than professional matters that could lead to higher maritz scores and happier guests. It is common to overhear your name or a fellow coworkers in a negative way. Leads to a very unprofessional environment and frankly takes away the joy of the hospitality business. - Everyone, including senior management is constantly on edge, so that stress trickled down to the individual hotel level. As any hotel, your schedule is a typical 5 or 6 days a week, the more you move up within the company the more hours demanded.
