Pros
The majority of the people at Hyland are good, and no one wants to see anybody actively fail. The on-side diners and gym facilities are nice, and the remaining culture/activities are a perk.
Cons
Hyland underpays significantly, and when recruiting, goes specifically after junior developers who don't know any better so that they won't have to pay well. Same with QA testers. The quality of leadership is hit-or-miss, mostly miss. Corporate leadership is currently playing games with technical employees where they recognize that R&D is underpaid, but won't do anything about it and waffle around the issue when asked directly. I left after a year of corporate leadership being unable or unwilling to make pay decisions regarding R&D and share them with employees. The re-org was deeply unpopular and miscommunication abounded. No one is sure how to proceed with their jobs. Career paths are unclear. Training provided is rushed, unfocused, and often doesn't line up with actual job responsibilities. Management heavily plays favorites, and poor performers are promoted due to social connections and appearances. More junior employees are steamrolled, passed over, and/or ignored. Feedback is often lukewarm at best. The company's famous culture is rapidly disappearing due to financial irresponsibility, mismanagement, and poor decision-making. It's very disappointing.
