Pros
Your day-to-day coworkers/leadership might be a great group of people. Though that's not guaranteed.
Cons
TL;DR - 2+ years ago I would have highly recommended the company even with the lower pay. When I left, I wouldn't have actively discouraged working at Hyland. Then they fired a large portion of R&D despite the company performing well. So I'd be very wary. The company continues to tout the "great place to work" title even though it no longer is. Initially, the good culture was a trade off for the lower pay. Currently, the culture is fading but the lower pay remains. They have not been able to make any of the top X places to work in recent years (for the Westlake headquarters at least). They have replaced or removed most of the company happy hours and parties. Some still exist which is nice - but it's a far cry from what it was and what is likely implied during recruitment. The intern only events still seem to be going strong, though. Senior management does not stick with decisions for any length of time. There was a company reorganization a few years ago. Then a few smaller restructures. They recently let ~150 people from R&D go and are going to be restructuring again. Senior management within R&D has changed quite a bit too. Many of the long time "here from the beginning" leadership retired early en masse. In some cases the same position has retired early multiple times. The company regularly mentioned how the goals that were set pre-Covid were being hit/exceeded throughout 2020. The mass firing of R&D was not a necessity, they just wanted to. It really flies in the face of the culture they're trying to sell with regard to family and transparency. I left shortly before the 2021 firing. The primary reason being that it was clear that upper management was only going to pay lip service to resourcing issues. It may have been due to them knowing that the purge was coming (~1.5 years in advance). None of the developers on my team were let go so I can't be sure. Work life balance is fading. The culture isn't bad, but it's not a selling point like it used to be. My team members were great, but that's not unique to Hyland. Overall, it's a standard office job.
