New CEO doesn’t understand or appreciate what has made Intermountain successful - IT Consultant Intermountain Health Employee Review

Pros

I have contributed to Intermountain Healthcare’s mission and success for over 12 years. I work with a very talented team of IT professionals and had planned to do so for another 10-12 years. The people are wonderful and committed, unfortunately, our new executive management team doesn’t value that any more.

Cons

Unfortunately, our new CEO (under the direction of our Board of Directors I’m sure), has taken it upon himself to ‘disrupt’ an organization that was otherwise quite effective and committed to our mission. Thousands of Intermountain employees are now questioning the direction of the organization and feeling less than valued. It seems that we are not behaving like a ‘not-for/profit’ company and high-level decisions are misguided and all about the bottom line. Unfortunately, Intermountain has a rough road ahead of it. I just hope that our new executive team doesn’t destroy everything that has been the reason for our success over many years.

Pros

There are many mission-driven caregivers who genuinely care about patients and want to provide high-quality behavioral health support. I appreciated the opportunity to work in an area connected to telehealth, crisis response, and access to care. The work itself can be meaningful, and I believe many employees are trying to do the right thing for patients and communities.

Cons

In my experience, the department culture was not psychologically safe. Feedback and performance concerns were not handled in a way that was clear, consistent, or supportive. I left feeling that the performance process was more punitive than developmental, and I did not feel meaningfully supported by leadership or HR during a difficult employment transition. The experience affected my emotional well-being and made me much more cautious about workplace culture and management practices.
