Pros
As with most companies, there are always good co-workers if you look for them. Find these people and stick with them! I have worked in two different offices across the country for this company. In both offices I had great co-workers at my level, and in one office I had solid, caring management. If you show the effort, your direct supervisor will provide the support. Caveat: it helps to be personable. Opportunities are there if you take the initiative to network with your teammates within your office and with other offices. The more invaluable you become to multiple project managers, the greater the backlog of work you acquire and the greater utilization/job security/opportunities for advancement you have. Patience is your greatest asset if you want to advance. The benefits package is on-par with the industry and in my experience is capable of providing a family of 3 with medical insurance without too much of a strain. Word of advice: use the HSA! In the last two years, Kleinfelder corporate leadership has taken its Diversity, Inclusion, Equity initiative very seriously. The company is putting a sincere effort in addressing its diversity problems in what is inherently a very white, very male sector.
Cons
Kleinfelder does not rapidly promote from within. You will be expected to perform the duties of the next-tier position on your career advancement track for at least 1 year before being actually promoted to the title and corresponding salary raise. Kleinfelder is owned by a holding company called Wind Point Partners, and they are in the business of improving the company's performance and profitability. Therefore utilization is always the primary consideration for your performance review, especially for entry-level positions. At least in the environmental remediation sector, utilization targets are difficult to hit unless you regularly work more than 40 hours a week to off-set weeks of low utilization. Paid company holidays and PTO negatively affect your utilization.
