Pros
free eyewear each year and discounts learning about optics is challenging and fun for SMM role coming from traditional retail; it’s stimulating to have your hand in the lab and Dr.’s side as well as retail side. for me, i enjoy a personalized customer experience and that each order is custom for that person (in the sense you help them pick the lenses and frames) depending on your location: have the ability to have great team members that are seasoned and long time lab managers or opticians that have stayed with the company and willing to help you learn
Cons
lack of support from higher management in terms of being realistic about issues such as staffing, theft and technology. presented data to support getting hours adjusted while team was severely understaffed and it never went anywhere. was just expected to either work single coverage or lots of overtime not proficient tools to execute basis job functions. specifically it’s ridiculous that our camera systems have an SD card that requires you take it out and search for the time stamp yet the computers in store don’t support this system so you have to use your own computer; yet there is no wi-fi available!!! exhausting system in place to report theft and so it doesn’t happen as often. known crime rings that continually (probably once or twice a month) completely grab and go and sell frames online. company doesn’t prosecute (typical) but doesn’t listen when you urge to adjust hours for safety issues and staffing to help with situation. Did not replace my personal belongings or have any compensation that were stolen. based on a technicality; yet happened while i was working and right in front of store. No transparency about optics and lab when recruiting retail managers. lack of support or ability to train to efficient level. expecting more work or same work out of less people (as most corporations lost pandemic)
