Pros

The employee discount is really the only real benefit of working for Macy's unless you can't find work elsewhere.

Cons

I've worked in various technology organizations for some time now, and Macy's has to be the absolute worst I've seen (and that's saying something). Unfortunately leadership has absolutely no clear direction, and is a perfect example of the blind leading the blind. Staffing is basically a H-1B mill, where the vast majority of "engineers" are from India and have very little, if any, appreciable or relevant technical experience. Most are too afraid to speak up in fear of losing their visas, can't (or don't) think for themselves and need to be spoon fed every step to execute their basic job functions effectively (and even then the work done is questionable), and no one seems to care about quality and/or efficiency. Very few best practices are actually followed at Macy's, and when there are outages, leadership pontificates among themselves and genuinely seems baffled as to why there are stability issues in the environment. The benefits are horrible which is why the internal recruiters won't provide you with any information prior to receiving an offer. Medical is essentially the bare minimums, meaning all the plans are expensive and/or have high deductible, there's no vision coverage, and what the medical plans do cover is limited. The matching on the 401(k) is below average based on my previous work experience, and PTO doesn't roll over (unless you're a California employee). Oh, and you have to be with the company for 3 months before you get any benefits, and I think the 401(k) doesn't start until a year after your start date. All in all, if you're low skilled and want to skate by, Macy's is the place for you. Otherwise, I'd pass on even considering working for the company unless you enjoy being constantly frustrated by working in a dysfunctional mess with an absolutely terrible corporate culture.

Pros

you get ok pto even as a part timer, not physically demanding, good A/C and heating depending on the weather.

Cons

very low pay compared to other businesses, you only get a 40 cent raise every year. same playlist consisting of 15 songs on repeat and it drives you crazy as time goes on. very inconsistent hours they rarely give morning shifts, you only get the more undesirable shifts like closing which ends at 9:30pm. the sales goals will be exceeded and they hours will still be cut especially around the holiday season. numerous amounts of time where i am left alone at the register on a busy day with no backup and still expected to clean fitting rooms and recover the floor with no help. overall no room for growth, started when i was 18 and am now 20 and have not even been considered or offered a higher position, 2 tiny raises is all i got. i overall feel like my position is bottom of the barrel compared to asset protection, jewelry department, and fragrance sales because they get paid better and make commission while doing less easier work. would not recommend and if you do end up working at a Macys use the experience you have and never stop applying to jobs because there really is no growth here.
