Leadership turnover was relentless -- I saw three CEO changes in just over two years. Each transition brought new priorities, new reorgs, and less transparency about where the company was actually headed. It became clear fairly early that the focus had shifted from building a strong product and company to trimming costs in preparation for an acquisition. Investment in product slowed noticeably, communication from leadership became sparse and guarded, and the culture of trust that might have once existed eroded steadily. The RIF process was handled with a stunning lack of care for the people involved. My layoff was delivered via a group Zoom call with no individual follow-up afterward. For a company that talks about its people, treating employees like line items on a cost-reduction spreadsheet -- especially in the way departures were handled -- was genuinely demoralizing.
