Pros

- Talented and collaborative teammates - Cool mission and vision

Cons

CEO is a highly emotional leader, and his style tends to be quite micromanaging. People hesitate to speak up or challenge ideas.

Thank you for the feedback, for your contribution at Normative and sorry to hear about your concerns. The whole leadership and I strive to create a workplace where we move at pace but where everyone can express their perspective. This is why we invest so much in creating a culture of transparency (monthly all-hands, regular comms on slack, all team targets achievement available on company-wide documents, Eletive platform to collect people's feedback - anonymously or not, etc.). It is hard to find the right balance, but if that was not your experience, then we will try harder! - Seb, CEO

Thank you for the feedback, for your contribution at Normative and sorry to hear about your concerns. The whole leadership and I strive to create clarity so that everyone understands what we are trying to achieve, why and how! This is particularly important at times of rapid change: whether it is in our industry or the software industry in general. But often, what feels like agility to a management team can look like a lack of structure to everybody else, so your feedback is very welcome. Let us act on it in the coming months! - Seb, CEO

Pros

The team that was built before the new CEO is an incredible group—engaging, inspiring, and deeply committed to the mission. The company used to be a place filled with empathy, energy, and a strong sense of a positive future.

Cons

I can no longer recommend Normative as a workplace. If you had asked me a year ago, my answer would have been very different. The company once had an incredible, humble, and brilliant CEO who truly embodied the mission—but after being pushed out, leadership was replaced by a more sales-driven approach that treats employees like numbers. This shift has completely changed the company’s once-inspiring culture, and the declining numbers reflect that reality. The new CEO brings an Elon Musk-style leadership—micro-managing, narcissistic, and draining the energy from the team. When new C-level management came in back in 2022, there was a wave of fresh enthusiasm, and everyone was delivering. Since the new CEO took over, morale has steadily declined. Layoffs have become an annual occurrence, creating an unstable and fragile work environment. One of the biggest blows was the dismantling of the effective marketing team, which had consistently met its targets. After this decision, at least four more team members left voluntarily, as the department no longer felt like the powerhouse it once was. Normative used to be a company full of passion, collaboration, and forward momentum. Unfortunately, that spirit has been lost.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback and we wish you the best going forward. We are sorry to hear that you feel Normative has changed for the worse. It can sometimes be the case when someone leaves whilst the company transitions from its start-up stage to its scale-up stage and there is a change in leadership. This being said, we would like to respectfully challenge the view that we are randomly breaking things. Instead, we are collectively building a rigorous framework using data to assess everything we do. Unfortunately, it means that some things that we used to do and were proud of were not having the outcome we thought. While it is not fun to adjust to this new reality, we have no choice but to do it quickly - especially at a time where regulatory and political winds blow in all directions at once and we have to be focused on our twin long missions: building the data layer required to power decarbonisation and, in the process, building the best carbon accounting platform.
