Pros

For those who are earlier in their careers this is a good opportunity to gain experience in certain assays, and to become proficient. Learn new QC commercial testing methods and gain experience with variety of laboratory equipment. Refine your QC testing and documentation skills. Contribute to saving and improving the lives of sick patients. Decent benefits and diverse workplace.

Cons

Don’t take this job just for the money. Testing can become very repetitive, you have to push and ask leadership to get trained on new assays to keep your drive going. Managers recognize hard work you put in but Site Leadership is a bit out of touch with the overall well being and appreciation of the folks in the lab. This makes getting recognition difficult and promotions are selective. The work load most of the time is very demanding, don’t expect a lot of easy days, it’s best to have a strong work ethic. Many associates quit after 2-3 years, and rehiring new employees takes way too long, leaving the work load burden for whoever is left.

Pros

Pays pretty well in comparison to similar jobs in the market

Cons

Unstable schedule where you are often asked to come in overnight (1-2 am) regardless of if you have worked the previous day or are off. Basically feels like you're permanently on-call to conduct environmental monitoring. Training is slow. The Micro dept in general is currently understaffed. The job also involves lab work once you are done with your daily environmental monitoring tasks. The work never ceases and the Technicians as a whole has several responsibilities. Promotions seem to come very slowly here.
