Pros

The programming involves some famous people and important subjects.

Cons

People at this place quit all the time. They quit without other jobs and they quit without warning. Nobody tells anybody - people just disappear…even high up people who run departments are gone. And they are never fired - they always quit. Even the HR people quit over and over again. A HR person once said to an employee “I am sorry that you have to be part of this. I am sorry that I am a part of it.“ ZERO work / life balance. People at Paley are often forced (not asked) to work 6 or 7 day weeks, usually with little or no warning. TOXIC Culture: Unhappiest people I have ever seen at any job.. Every day is chaos. Meetings get scheduled and don’t happen. Projects get assigned on fast deadlines and then abandoned. Everything is done in secret. THE CEO is a liar. She lies in big meetings and small meetings. She lies to outside people. She lies to potential hires. She lies to the Board (and trust me - one day the incredibly powerful CEOs who fund this place are going to get the message). But hopefully reviews like this will get somebody at one of those companies to do some real digging and what they find out will put the CEO (and probably her inner circle) out on the street. FEAR. It’s hard to really explain how much fear there is inside this place. People are terrified to make a decision, tell anybody anything or basically do their job.

Pros

One thing I can say about working at Paley: you’ll never be bored since there is something new every day! It is a fast-paced environment and all hands on deck for simultaneous projects, so always a chance to excel and do meaningful work. Colleagues really support each other and get to share their talents and feel appreciated.

Cons

If high-volume, fast-paced work and grace under pressure doesn’t suit you, Paley might not be the right fit. SInce Paley produces multiple programs each month, hours can be long during busy times.

Pros

The Paley Center for Media is a most extraordinary place to work. It is a front-row seat to unfolding modern history, to all that is going on across the broad idea of media. The sheer scope of the overall offerings is impressive, whether you work there or you are a visitor. As a long-time employee, I have witnessed and been a small part of the continual evolution of the cultural importance of media, which for a career, is immensely satisfying. Importantly, the work is a communal effort at Paley. Every position, every skill is essential to the overall mission. It is a joy to work with such talented and committed people, another aspect that makes Paley a special place to work. A company needs clear vision at the very top to ensure the institution is positioned to weather economic turmoil and in fact grow. CEO & President Maureen Reidy has skillfully guided Paley to re-find its identity as a museum to ensure the public knows that we are open and welcoming to all.

Cons

In order to offer such a rich array of public and industry programs, it is a very fast-paced environment. It will not be a good fit for people who aren't energized by that pace of working.
