Pros

Working for Pollard made me absolutely determined to leave Winnipeg for Calgary and for that I thank them. If you have to take a job here I urge you to save your money and move to Alberta as soon and you can.

Cons

I hesitated to write this review because smart people would look at the criticism and use it to improve and I can’t stand the thought of giving this bunch anything that might help, but then I remembered no one in charge at Pollard is that smart. The rule at successful businesses is that you hire people who are good and want to succeed at a job and that then reflects well on you, the attitude at Pollard Bank Note is “if I hire someone smart, ambitious, or competent they might become a threat to my job”. The result is as bad as you can imagine. Good ideas are viewed as a threat, mediocrity and brown noseing are rewarded, and no one cares about anything except their next paycheque. The result is a business in steady decline. Don’t take my word, look at the stock price. The first day of trading saw the stock at about $12 CAD. It touched $14 in 2006 and has declined steadily since. Even simple concepts like depreciation escapes management. The equipment is old and outdated and management refuses to replace it. The company motto is “integrity at work” during one of the many moments of boredom some of us came up with a new and improved motto, “integrity at work will set you free” if you don’t get it, “work will set you free” was written in German above the gates of Auschwitz. Wages are low, the work mind numbing, and prospects limited. When I was there, there were employees who had worked as temps (with full time hours) for ten years, all they aspired to was getting on full time so they could have medical/dental benefits, (keep reaching for that rainbow guys).
