Pros
Most coworkers are good people. Bankers have many holidays off with pay. Banks usually have a good work environment, (air conditioned, desk to work at, semi-regular work hours).
Cons
Since 2010, new government laws have caused a decrease in revenues for banks. They must make up for this lost revenue somewhere. Unfortunately, at RBC this has meant creating an environment of stress for the employees to "make a sale" and telemarketing their clients. Managers at all levels constantly throughout the day push for sales and warn you that you haven't closed enough deals for the day to reach your daily goal. Then there are weekly, monthly and quarterly goals as well for those in the retail bank branches. This is not unusual for bankers nowadays; However, consider this before taking on a job with RBC. It is a hard-core sales bank. If you like that, then it's the job for you. Before you accept a position, however, ask about the goals. Ask what percentage of employees in your prospective position met their goals the last quarter.
