Pros
Lots of interesting locations to work for with Serco and open positions are readily made known. Serco's worldwide services and press releases suggest true caring and creative ideas on the forefront, which is exciting to be part of. But, I'm still waiting for some proof of life with this company. IF they ever provide some of the bennies they spout on about, or IF they ever follow-through on promises they make, they might be a good company to work for. Based on their talk, there could still be some real promise there...it's their actions that concern me.
Cons
So far we've seen nothing but complete chaos with Serco ever since they re-bid the contract. They are supposed to provide management support services, but my experience is that they have highly ineffective middle managers who show signs of being ill informed, lacking appropriate knowledge, and who also seem to be stuck with a general rigidity that belies their company line about promoting creative thinking. We have also found them to be vindictive and disrespectful to their employees. This is a company that seems to put profit not only ahead of it's people, but ahead of it's contracted projects — namely the people it serves. The number of dysfunctional issues we have seen, combined with the surprisingly poor management practices, does not bode well for Serco or the public they serve. We keep hoping once they get their heads out of those dark places, things will get better, but communication does not seem to be a Serco strong point.
