Hi and thanks for taking the time to post your comments. I am glad to hear that you appreciate the positive and fair work culture we are aiming to grow here at Shopify. I am concerned; however, to read that you feel you can only grow at Shopify if you market yourself and have the right connections. We know that if Shopify is to be a 100 year company we need to think critically about how we can best provide internal movement opportunities to grow our employees and in turn the company as a whole. We are also actively working on how to best promote these opportunities to all employees as well as streamline the internal movement process when it occurs. Whilst you may feel that personal connections are most important factor when it comes to moving internally, I am here to tell you that an individual employee’s impact is far more valuable. If you continue to kick-goals and have an impact in your role at Shopify this will always be noticed… and if it turns out you can have more impact in a different role to the one you are currently in then an internal move is often far easier to achieve than you might think! There are resources you can access to learn more about the internal move process within Shopify, but the best advice I can offer is to simply do your best in everything you do and continue to demonstrate your impact wherever you can.
