Pros

-Jewelry discount (though they don't pay you enough to make many purchases worth while). -Opportunity to move up. -Benefits are decent. -Mall employees get great lunch selections, being near a food court.

Cons

-Management is unprofessional and full of plots. It's all about what will make them happy in the long run, and what will make the company the most money. I watched a DISTRICT MANAGER quote a customer a FALSE estimate for a repair, and then promptly leave the store, leaving the sales associates to back track and inform the customer that the price would actually be triple what was originally quoted. -Pay is not commensurate with the job characteristics. Constant struggles with home office, customer care, special orders, and repair shops make it near impossible to do your job effectively. -"Commission" is next to nothing. The structure in which commission is figured is mind boggling, and never pays off. -Environment is debilitating and mentally exhausting. Team morale is non-existent, and the gossip becomes nauseating. -Overall quality of jewelry and inventory is poor, and falls apart quickly. Customers become frustrated after their precious treasures break time and time again. -MANY pieces are unable to be properly sized without inevitably damaging the structure of it. Custom ordering takes months, even though the home office houses thousands of them. -Higher management will threaten stores with "Saturday morning meetings" if they do not crank out appropriate standards. -POS and technological systems are archaic and slow.

Pros

Great place to learn how to become a better jeweler and grow your skills, if you are in an environment that takes full advantage of what the company provides. The benefits are also extremely generous with PTO and depending on the work environment, your schedule can be very flexible. Also being a jeweler means you are in a separate department from the sales side of the company and they have no authority over you, and your job as a jeweler isn't impacted by the sales side, you could be working inside a Jared, but it doesn't matter if the salesperson couldn't make the sale, and the money charged between the Service Center and the store is all just a number for tracking margin, so it's really nice being a jeweler that doesn't need to worry about sales or have a salesperson lord over you. It's very different than a mom and pop jeweler job.

Cons

Depending on the shop/manager your growth can be stagnanted. The company pushes for number of units and that's created a mentality of a focus for lesser quality workmanship to pass through QC. The store side salespeople don't get trained well on their side and will lean on the service center side to do the technical things for them. The sales staff knowledge on jewelry can be next to nothing because it's not a requirement for them, so that adds a lot of friction between jeweler and sales staff.
