Pros

Good office set-up with all the material things you need to perform your daily duties. Central location of the office. Relaxed local managers. Lots of marketing materials available for employees. End of the year budget for team dinner. Yearly bonus.

Cons

No room to grow as promotions are scarce and mostly in the sales department. Managers are named based on their personal performance and continue to do their usual tasks. Majority of them have zero people skills and use their position as perk in performing their tasks. They don't support their team but rather live by the "divide and conquer" phrase. Their main feature is that they don't retaliate and always carry the word of upper management to the masses. Pay is a lot lower than the market. There are pay gaps and perks between offices around the world. Bonuses for non-sales personnel are fluctuating based on unknown algorithms so you will never know how much you are going to get at the end of the month, if any. Upper management is not involved in the relationship with employees and local managers don't communicate the issues to them so you are stuck with whatever malcontent you might have. There is no opportunity for employees to assess their managers which might offer some insights on how good ( or rather bad) they are performing. In theory the company has a great culture but in practice none of it is actually followed. It's a company where everybody will try to either steal your work, take credit for your work or minimize your achievements. Stealing and undercutting is seem as competition and encouraged with upper management rarely getting involved in setting the things straight. Smaller offices are seen as not worthy of attention and colleagues from bigger offices treat the employees as they are some third world country insignificant humans. Expect the big sharks, a.k.a. senior employees, to jump at your neck and reclaim your business. Upper managers are not aligned on what standards they should apply. Leadership is a parade of what is supposed to be done, the reality is those principles are not respected. Lack of professionalism and work ethics at all levels - you will get backstabbed and management will only look from afar. During the exit interview the HR is not actually interested in why you are leaving and the form they give you to fill in is very limited in terms of having the opportunity to actually state the real issues.

Pros

Transparent and authentic communication from leadership. Fun collaborative, yet competitve, environment. A place for people who want to win, who chase greatness with a passion for their jobs. Quick decision making.

Cons

Houston traffic :) Not the place for someone chasing titles as it is very flat organization, but for those that just want to expand their responsibilities and contribution without a title change it works.

Thank you for your feedback! We are proud of the positive and collaborative culture and entrepreneurial environment we’ve built to support our employees. To celebrate their achievements and dedication, we often promote people from within, with more than 100 employees receiving promotions or title changes in 2025 and an average tenure exceeding 20 years among our leadership team. We also offer career expansion programs to help employees level up their skills, including our Leadership Development Program and FaST. Sorry about the traffic but at least Houston’s not too hot… Wait a minute… We are so happy you brave the traffic each day to be a wonderful part of the Smith family!

Pros

Nice colleagues, on-site gym at the headquarters

Cons

This company is a rudderless ship with zero strategy or long-term vision. The owner constantly pushes unrealistic, half-baked ideas that employees are forced to chase, and you cannot push back—even if they're complete nonsense. Senior management's nepotism is off the charts: they parachute their own kids in as "interns," then rubber-stamp them into full-time roles post-graduation, or worse, invent cushy positions when the real world won't hire them. No HR vetting, no background checks, and their degrees utterly irrelevant to the job. These favored hires get unlimited work-from-home privileges and extended maternity leaves stretching over six months (while the rest of us get a measly 8 weeks)—all because Mommy or Daddy pulls the strings upstairs. Talent? They couldn't spot it with a magnifying glass. Hard workers get ignored or burned out, while promotions go to the lazy liars who produce zilch. Pay's a joke—way below market rate—fueling endless jealousy as certain departments get fat checks while others starve. They size you up by your car, your watch, or whatever signals your "status." It's toxic high-school pettiness in a corporate shell. A brutal mass layoff where they yanked system access mid-day, no warning, no heads-up—just locked out like yesterday's trash. Run away—this place chews up talent and spits out shells.

This former employee's impression of Smith is not reflective of the company or our culture. As a leader in the semiconductor industry for over 40 years, Smith takes pride in the positive and dynamic culture we’ve created across the company. We have thrived in the industry thanks to our long-term business strategy and commitment to supporting our people. As an entrepreneurial company, we reward individuals who take the initiative and seize opportunity. Our compensation structure and benefits packages are designed to be competitive to attract and retain top talent, including promoting and rewarding top-performing employees and hard workers.
