Pros

SolarCity works towards a great goal: easing the burden on home and business owners by providing supplementary power and reducing their utility bills. The company is not just focused on their customers, but their employees as well. General management does not view you as an employee, but sees you as a team member who is working toward a greater goal to further develop your own team and yourself. As a former employee at the company, I was able to grow very quickly and had many opportunities to venture out to different teams and/or departments. Fellow team members are very kind and help you develop yourself in your respective position. The Senior Project Manager of the team helps remind you that you are doing revolutionary work for the company and that your work is allowing solar to be an option for customer's whose roof's are in disrepair.

Cons

The negative aspects of SolarCity; however, are as abundant as its positives. The company works at a very fast pace and can make several process changes within the week. The bad part about that is the knowledge of those changes is not spread to other departments. This leads to poor customer communication and results in negative internal and external reviews about your work as you were not made aware of said changes. The company also prides its sales department far more than any other department. Sales team members have made corporate blunders with their customers and HR nightmares a reality by bringing fellow team members to tears with their rough vocabulary via phone call or email. They will email as far up the chain of command as they can to make a sale so that they can get their bonuses. Unfortunately, most of them just get a scolding while people in my position would have been immediately terminated. Project management in this company becomes fairly monotonous and tiring quickly. Team members would constantly discuss how little they would be paid for how much they actually do ($15/hour is not sufficient for a 40+ hour job) and how frustrated they are for not having a bonus. In addition to the great lack in payment, the supervisor of the team tends to send very vague emails and expects you to understand that he wants you to provide a recount of the entire account he is emailing you about.

Pros

Just to quantify my review a bit, I am within the top 10% of inside sales reps within our 12,000 person company. It is a great place to work and people doing well ARE able to make good money here. The executive team ALWAYS has a platform for reps to help make SolarCity a better place every quarter. They involve the top 20 reps each quarter in various ways to help their peers through an interactive group called Team Elite. Executives, VP's, Directors, and Managers are always willing to help and go to bat when there are issues with things that need to be fixed. The direction of the company is consistent and although the company is large, decision makers work as hard as possible to steer the big ship quickly when necessary.

Cons

Knee jerk reactions with decision making at a director level create issues from time to time. Culture has had its ups and downs due to HUGE growth last year and subsequent high attrition rates.
