Pros

Theoretically there are opportunities for diverse project exposure. A good office for junior staff to learn in and develop skills, specifically in multifamily residential. There are certain senior staff who will go above and beyond to share their knowledge with you. Unfortunately this is a pretty condition and reserved for leadership "pet project" types and not universally available to all. A lot of senior leadership will work with the same 2-3 people on a project and the rest bounce around as "filler" when teams need help for deadlines or if someones on vacation or parental leave, etc.

Cons

Leadership (associates and above) seem too preoccupied/ burdened with corporate demands from the mother ship and demands of their project load to meaningfully engage with project teams. In many years at this location, only a handful of my smaller project teams ever had regular team meetings. The lack of visibility of junior team members meant inaccurate and incomplete personnel reviews and in my opinion this significantly limited my advancement opportunities.

Pros

Hybrid Work and access to useful engineering tools

Cons

Projects are inconsistent in organization and structure (some good some bad). High (and strict) utilization requirements of >93% for entry level and mid level engineers results in overtime with overlapping work loads to avoid any downtime between projects. No development or mentorship strategy around work assignments, the main goal is to keep utilization up. Stantec has been very focused on cutting costs by offshoring, limiting conference attendance, reducing volunteer hours, no tuition reimbursement, multiple layers of approvals to attend in-office CPR training, etc. Very corporate environment and top heavy management with over 240+ “Vice Presidents” currently at the company. Difficult to get raises/promotions besides annual raise. Typical raise is ~3-5% with a good review depending on where your current salary is in relation to the pay range for your career level.
