Pros

Couldn't think of a pro.

Cons

I worked at the Hong Kong office of Sun Life Financial and left because the working environment under the current leadership eventually became unsustainable for me. From my experience, the leadership style felt very top-down, with a strong emphasis on alignment with directives from senior management. During my time there, there were several changes among senior team members, which at times created a political environment where alignment with leadership seemed important for stability. There was also a significant level of operational oversight and frequent requests from leadership that made it challenging for teams to maintain work-life balance. Many colleagues felt that expectations and workload could be unpredictable. Some colleagues raised concerns through HR channels, though during my time at the company I personally did not see significant changes resulting from those discussions. If you prioritize a collaborative, respectful environment with reasonable balance and openness to feedback, I would recommend carefully researching the Hong Kong team before joining. The company brand and external reputation are strong, but my day-to-day experience did not fully match those expectations.

Pros

Holidays off, okay pay, cross train in other areas that are needed

Cons

Managers, doesn’t keep advancement promises, always mentioning room for growth but when the opportunity presents itself they have an excuse for why right now is not a good time to move. Adds training for other departments that are short staffed but don’t compensate for all the different departments calls you are taking. Trying to take PTO is a pain, there are plenty employees so there should be no issues with taking time off
