Pros

1. Nice, friendly people, overall the culture is positive 2. Good opportunity to build your network of tech people in a city 3. You can expense free lunches when you take clients or potential candidates out (many people in the office abuse this and just eat lunch with their friends though...)

Cons

1. Pay is absolutely terrible. Many people can earn more with another job straight out of college. There is a small ramp up period for both a recruiter and account manager for a few months. You really don't make money until you put a lot of people to work. Basically you get paid on something called your "spread" number which is a calculation that the company does to see how much you make off of a consultant's hours worked during a week. You only get paid when your contractor works. If they don't work (for whatever reason like a holiday, etc.), then you will not get paid. Most of the money is in temporary staffing and not in direct placements. You are always at the mercy of your accounts. If your accounts stops hiring or lays off your contractors due to budget cut backs then you will earn no commission money because your "spread" is low. 2. The account manager is a sales job and it is an absolute grind. I did it for 2 years. Some account managers (AM) get lucky by being given a nice established account that buys a lot of temporary staffing. Other AMs have to start from scratch and build a territory from nothing. This will require a lot of cold calling and relationship building. If you want to start with new accounts, it takes you easily a year or more to see success. 3. Lack of growth opportunities at a regional office. Basically the roles are Director, Account Managers, Recruiters and Customer Support Staff in an office. Unless you want to relocate to the headquarters, then there is a lack of career growth or opportunity.

Pros

- Decent pay to start. - Account manager is responsive, engaging, and a serious advocate for you and your contract. - Gain access to Udemy Business to build more skills.

Cons

- The benefits suck. - High recruiter turnover with highly variable experience trying to work with them-- some are good, most are not. - Once you are placed, you will be promised regular meetings and then never hear from the recruiter again. - Trying to find a new contract if you are unhappy with your current placement is nearly impossible and I don't believe they are incentivized to help you move at all. - You have to manually request a raise and depending on how you negotiated your contract, you may or may not have the ability to receive one. - There is a cap to how much they will pay you for the contract so even if you work that position 4 years, once you hit that cap you are stuck. I originally submitted my resume with TekSystems when I had finished my degree and never heard back. Many years later, I was approached on LinkedIn by a TekSystems recruiter for a position and he had no idea I was in the system previously. Working with him was good, and I did get the position. Then I never heard from him again and I've had 4 or 5 different recruiters whose names I could not tell you if I tried since then. There's supposed to be monthly calls, they never happen.
