Pros

- Friendly coworkers (not management) - Work with fun IPs such as Lego and Star Wars - Some talented engineers around you to learn from

Cons

This place frequently demands extreme overtime. The kind where you are staying until 3am for a week or more sometimes. When it isn't extreme overtime, it's just regular unpleasant overtime, working until 9pm. When I was there, there was no attempt to compensate for this overtime. They might tell you to take the day off after a launch, but that is not proportional to working until the morning hours for days on end. It's essentially wage theft. They continually say that they're working on it, but that isn't possible. They're entire business model is based off this exploitation. The contract industry is very competitive, so they make deals with companies saying they can do projects very quickly and for cheap to undercut other contract companies. To make up for their unrealistic budgets and timelines, they underpay staff and overwork them. During an All Hands meeting, management asked for feedback to improve the company, and almost everyone answered they wanted less crunch. Instead of listening to these grievances they said it wasn't useful feedback because they already know about the problem. They get upset when you point it out, but won't do anything to change it. On top of that, folks in management positions are unfriendly in general around the office.

Trigger Global Response

I’m very sorry to hear that this employee had such a negative experience at Trigger. Given the low turnover we’ve had over the past couple years, as well as changes to our overtime pay policies, it seems likely that they worked with us some time ago. In response to employee feedback, over the past 2-3 years we’ve taken great strides to significantly reduce crunch, and when overtime does happen (an occasional reality in the agency world) we now offer paid overtime to our developers. As a former Project Manager at Trigger I’m no stranger to our past struggles with OT, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done to make real change in this area!
