Cons
too much paper work and support work (Remedy Change Controls) *** no documentation and no on-job training *** non-technical and incompetent management ** unstable/fragile/buggy in-house software products ** extremely complex software environments and data networks ** major products and operations are outsourced ** not so good project management (every other week new face) ** too much bureaucracy (everyone is a manager of some kind) ** kind of micromanaged: you report your every hour (lucky if you are not) ** 10+ hours/wk non-sense/useless corporate meetings ** too many non technical or low tech tasks ** poor intra-group coordination/cooperation (i.e lot of groups and their managers politics) ** very tight and unrealistic deadlines * you are always presssed to deliver quicker and quicker * even if you have 20+ years of experience, your pay is just 1k more than 0-5 year of experienced co-worker * if you leave before your anniversary, you loose all of your incentives (not prorated) * insane working hours and conditions many decisions are not made until last hour someone can't wait to put you on pager rotation long hours on the calls, sometimes all night nobody knows everything (you go figure out, run hoop to hoop pillar to pillar) too much dependency on vendors/third-parties poor standards and procedures (compared to other IT companies) lowest pay for the amount of hours you put in your relocation expenses are paid to go there, however you will pay from your nose when you move out no promotion likely for next 3 years at least, no matter how super you perform old technologies: Unix/ESQLC + UDB/Informix, Mainframes/COBOL + DB2 if you are on H1B you will be fully loaded until you breakdown if you are a vendor/contractor then I wish you and your family all the best !! if you are a techie (and have great ideas) this place is not suitable to you if you have higher degrees and expect higher pay this place is not for you cheap looking small pods (even two chairs don't fit in) too much noise in the office can't log into gmail, hotmail, yahoo mail from the office computers (super strict security measures) long line and wait time during lunch hours very large parking lot, so prepared to walk long distance or come in as early as 7am CITY: boring city *** not many good schools (pre, elem, mid) compared to other states education standards and students are not on par with other states higher bills (taxes, water, electric and cable) compared to other larger cities no liquor or alcohol sold, no adult entertainment places not many IT companies around, so switching job is not easy so so health care providers not many direct flights from/to the local airport to/from the major airports you can only shop at walmarts (although this is changing) dangerously narrow roads and slow traffic and strict speed limits and cops everywhere auto services are little bit expensive it seems HEALTH CARE: I heard pre existing conditions are not covered WEATHER: Winter: horrible cold and windy like the north pole
