Not for Legit Salespeople - Sales Account Executive Yelp Employee Review

Pros

The only pros are that it is remote work and the benefits are good.

Cons

The pay structure is horrendous. You make less than $17/hr and don't start earning commission until you've made the company at least $12k in revenue which is almost impossible. The whole company is essentially a scam and MLM. The product itself is way overpriced and underperforms in 95% of the cases. Yelp is designed to take advantage of small business owners who don't know better and to make money off of them. Those who know better call them the Yelp Mafia. Your days will be spent harassing busy people and when you are done with them, they are sent to the next rep to be harassed. Managers only care about making money off of you. This is truly the bottom of the barrel of sales jobs.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're glad to hear that you are enjoying the flexibility of remote work and our benefits package. First and foremost, we have a zero-tolerance policy for unethical behavior, and our playbook heavily instructs our team to communicate our products clearly and accurately. Our ultimate goal is to help business owners make a positive change and successfully grow their businesses with the help of Yelp advertising. We also know that cold calling is a difficult task. Business owners receive many sales calls daily, which is why we coach our Account Executives to remain persistent without being pushy, focusing on the actual value they can provide. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible about the challenges, rewards, and expectations that come with the Account Executive position during the interview process. With that said, we focus on rewarding every person with a competitive compensation package centered on much more than just a paycheck. This package includes things like stock incentives, cash bonuses, 401(k) matching, wellness reimbursements, work from home reimbursements, mental health and wellness services, and employer-paid insurance, to name a few. We recognize that this fast-paced sales environment and our hands-on management style may not be the right fit for everyone. Your feedback is heard, and we will share it with our leadership team so we can continue to improve the employee experience. Thank you for your contributions to Yelp.

Pros

Collegial, collaborative work culture Remote-first culture (which has trade-offs for sure) Working on interesting problems Responsive leadership

Cons

I wish execs would prioritize regular team IRLs. They seem to be the first thing canceled whenever growth slows

Pros

If you love your city, it can be very fun. Remote work is helpful and you'll make great relationships with fellow community managers, who are typically wonderful people.

Cons

As others have said, upper management is extremely out of touch with reality, including the realities of small businesses post-COVID. Pay is very under market for the level of work. Values are consistently preached but only selectively honored.

Thanks for sharing your experience after spending so many years on our team. We agree that connecting with your city and working alongside wonderful fellow Community Managers are some of the best parts of the role. We're also glad remote work was helpful for you. Favoritism and gossip don't align with the environment we want to create. We want everyone to feel valued and supported as a person. We also want to uplift team members who want to explore roles in other departments. We have many amazing opportunities across Yelp, and we encourage people to pursue the work they care about most. Your feedback helps us grow, and we will share your notes with our leadership team so we can keep making Yelp a better place to work. Thanks for all your hard work over the years, and we wish you the very best in your next role.
