Real ownership, real production — great for self-starters
Pros
If you're someone who learns by doing, FutureSmart AI is genuinely one of the better environments to be in early in your career. I was working on a live platform with real users from day one — not shadow work, not staging environments, actual production. The tech stack is modern (Next.js, Payload CMS, TypeScript) and the remote setup is flexible and well-functioning. The autonomy here is real — you own your work end to end, which accelerates growth faster than most structured internships ever could.
Cons
The flip side of high autonomy is that mentorship is largely absent. If you hit a wall, you're mostly figuring it out yourself — which is fine once you have a foundation, but can be disorienting early on. Expectations around tasks and deliverables could also be communicated more clearly upfront. There were instances where the scope of work was vague and evolved without much discussion, which made prioritisation harder than it needed to be.
