Pros

None whatsoever in the slightest.

Cons

Everything. Staff are overworked and underpaid. The courses taught are not fit for purpose and contribute little in real terms towards ensuring learners' increase their employability. Spurious claims are made regarding learners helped back into work but I have seen learners gain employment entirely separately from Go Train's best "efforts" that were claimed as a "progression" (Go Train term for a learner helped into employment). Facilities are dire to the point of being a health and safety risk and in need of renovation. There is an horrific culture of bullying in the business that starts with management and extends throughout the company. Individual employees are singled out for the most spurious of reasons and their lives made a misery because they do not, or are not allowed, to fit in with the main clique. Its like a schoolyard, if not worse. That person will then face ostracization by colleagues and be given all the unpleasant and difficult tasks by management until they feel they have no option but to leave. I have also witnessed some of the most unprofessional attitudes and behaviour in my working life. I have seen learners imitated and made fun of behind their backs around aspects of behaviour, communication etc. that are blatantly the result of learning difficulties or mental health problems. I have seen learners lured onto courses with the promise of a guaranteed interview only to find that "interview" is with a Go Train employee and merely there to progress them through to the next stage of the selection process, the next stage composed of a work trial where the learners work for a company for two or three days only to be told there is no job for them. Go Train in the meantime gets paid, the company gets free labour and the Jobcentre that sent the learners to Go Train gets to massage its figures. How this company remains in business I'll never know, and why Jobcentres continue to do business with them is a mystery. Never, ever, regardless of how desperate you are for a wage, contemplate ever working for this company.

Pros

The stress you are put under causes you to form close bonds with your peers as you cling to each other for survival. Every so often they accidentally put the right learner on the right course and they make a difference to someone's life. It's rare, but sometimes it happens and gives you a warm glow. On the whole the learners are lovely.

Cons

The pressure from the ceo to write positive reviews on pages such as glassdoor to improve ratings as too many honest reviews got through. Learners are income generators, and if they are on the right course, if its of benefit to them, if they have the language skills to cope or if they're too advanced is not considered relevant. You are encouraged to do whatever you need to do to make paperwork right. Managers lack training and although there are some good ones, there are also really, really poor ones that make life absolutely miserable. Pay is well below industry standard and there is absolutely no training or CPD.

Pros

Being exposed to courses. And I guess having a job is better than not having a job.

Cons

Where to begin?! For a start they often seem to employ people who have no skills whatsoever, often school leavers and then they think they can somehow teach skills like Maths, English and IT when most of them don't even have the skills themselves. The hours are anti social although I believe that has improved now. Everyone is still required to do evenings as well as normal office hours. The salary is absolutely disgusting. I don't know how they can justify such low salaries especially not when you consider that this is no 9-5 job. I was on the same pay for several years. Never had one payrise. The staff are treated terribly. No one stays long as no one is happy. There is no career progression whatsoever. Management treated the staff so badly. In fact several people ended up severely depressed because of how they were treated. One particular manager was a nasty piece of work but no one seemed to notice as this manager was good at selling so no one cared as the money was coming in. This was before they went over to having government funded courses only. Before that things were a little better. We literally got treated like school kids. It was insulting. Had to do whatever management said even if it was not in the contract. There was no proper HR either which in this day and age is unacceptable. Several instances of fraud going on too. No benefits whatsoever. Minimum amount of holidays. Everything was always negative even when the branch was doing well. So demotivating. Worse job I have ever had. Having worked elsewhere for numerous years now and having discussed this with lots of people I have realised that this place was definitely not normal.
