Pros
Really great commission structure, lovely team, I really enjoyed working at Harrods. There's good staff benefits and I felt well looked after
Cons
Struggled with the shift patterns especially over the Xmas holidays, but then this is always an issue in this industry

Pros
Regular pay, many possibilities to move internally
Cons
Pay could be way better. The company model has changed a lot since the latest owner change and instead of the employees feeling like ''one'' (one of the Harrods values) and family, the atmosphere is very corporate and they keep cutting costs constantly and taking away more and more but sure the people from managers to directors get their bonuses. Many managers have a mindset where they don't care if a person stays or leaves because ''there is always a queue for the role'' even though there isn't and many workers don't stay there long and some departments are constantly hiring new stuff or might be understaffed for a long time. The staff discount is nice but the pay is not enough unless you are doing something else than shop floor so you actually don't get to enjoy it that much. Weird hierarchies and clicks at times and managers work more for the directors than their workers. The pay is regular and the corporate health services are a good add. It's a good place to be to get add on the cv.

Pros
Variety - there's always something different going on. Opportunity - the company encourage career progression whether in the field of your current role or a different department/direction. People - the people are what make Harrods special. I've stayed in my dept for so long due to the people in it and the camaraderie. However the way Harrods is, means that there is so much interaction with other departments and people that out of nowhere you can build networks and indeed friendships that are unexpected. Flexibility - the introduction of Hybrid working for office staff is a huge bonus
Cons
Workloads - I'm very lucky that my workload is manageable but I see MANY colleagues around me in our department who struggle week to week from the demands coming from around the business. Reduction of benefits from when I started - we used to get BCA on Sale items, many brands reducing or removing discount to staff, affordable brands for staff exiting from store,

Pros
Hybrid working pattern ( although there’s a million meetings a day) Some nice colleagues
Cons
Awful pay! I mean shockingly low 20k for skilled roles in head office. They try to make you feel like it’s a privilege to work here to excuse the rubbish pay. Mid level managers do the EXACT same role as their junior staff and get paid more.

Pros
1.Staff discount (but everything is still super expensive as you'd expect) 2. Big teams and lots of new, friendly people to meet. 3. Many departments take a lot of pride in the work that they do.
Cons
1. Toxic Management - I had the displeasure of working for one of the nastiest people I have ever met in my life. I have worked in a lot of corporate environments and a lot of them can feel extremely high pressured, but this particular manager/director made it their mission to put other people down and make them feel inadequate, I have no idea how Harrods are justifying the employment of this person. 2. Absolutely no sympathy from management, I know people who were told that they had to ask permission when leaving the workplace with serious medical and family emergencies, despite the fact that they had informed those present on the day. 3. The favouritism is unbelievable, I have never seen anything like it. For a company that prides itself on 'values', they have a long way to go. Progression opportunities are entirely biased. 4. It is sad to think that all of the wonderful people working at Harrods (I met many) are being let down by those who have been given positions of authority they do not deserve. 5. Office amenities - head office has no staff canteen and standard coffee machine coffees cost employees money. This forces a lot of people to go out and buy coffee/drinks/snacks throughout the day and then are made to feel guilty for doing so. 6. Some managers will monitor you like you are in school, especially if you are in your 20's-30's with no kids. I have known departments to make their favourites 'snitch' on anyone who exhibited behaviour that they did not approve of, which ended up just being an opportunity for the favourites to target those they did not like as much.

- 3.013 Sept 2023Security OfficerCurrent Employee, more than 1 yearLondon, England
Pros
It's a decent job with arguably the best pay for security in London. 4 days on 4 off with not many nights to do. The workplace is average, very rude staff members who act like they own Harrods and treat security like dirt only when they need security around is when they appreciate our assistance. Managers are extra pushy and if they don't like you they'll give you a hard time or a bad rota with all standing positions. Directors have no sense of compassion for security and are reluctant to budget on protective equipment or uniform for security i.e. bidy cameras, stab prrof vests etc.. Overall a decent job but be prepared to be treated like a second/third class citizen at any given moment and a boring job watching people spend thousands and millions and dont often tip you or say thank you for opening the door for them.
Cons
Pushy managers Support not always available from directors and managers Given a bad rota with standing positions Managers have their favourite officers
