      Typical startup messiness with big egos as a bonus

      Pros

      Pleasant and lighthearted rapport among colleagues. Excellent work flexibility. Informal, unpretentious culture. Fantastic perks and company equity. Endless access to alcohol. Amazing lunch selection and daily dessert.

      Cons

      NO HUMAN RESOURCES OR PEOPLE OPS. No one knows where to go with organizational conflicts. Major lack of organization and structure. Frequent firings. High pressure but low support. Goading with the promise of promotions only to decline at the last minute. Far too many ego-maniacal men and weird power dynamics.

      The benefits are insane There were good people there They were great at selling a vision

      Cons

      I was part of the abrupt lay off event. No warning, no indication that anything was coming. Right before I joined, they had massive turnover in the sales org, and then as of today, most of sales, marketing, and customer success are gone now too. I don’t think anyone at the organization knows what is going on. As far as we can piece together, the sales projections were inflated and fake, the organization scaled in accordance to that, and then when the board realized what was actually happening, they got rid of everyone. Complete and utter shock to the whole organization. I’m embarrassed to have been associated with this org, even for the short period of time I was there.

      Pros

      Benefits are still amazing, company culture is making positive change after the turmoil earlier this year, leadership has been consistently demonstrating that they are listening and care. Rebuilding from the mistakes of the past will not happen overnight, but we hit our goals in a real way for the first time in Q2. Sales leadership is definitely different at this point. The engineering work is interesting with good problems to solve.

      Cons

      The engineering layoffs in July were rough. The team is just barely recovered, and the overall product vision seems to be missing some of the direction provided by the previous founders. CTO feels disconnected from the day to day of engineering. Time will tell if that is the case, and if it's recoverable or if the team will mostly turnover.
