Terrible Company

Pros

Can’t think of a single one.

Cons

Just an absolute terrible company overall that doesn’t appreciate the cultures, religions, or values of their own employees while continuing to shove their propaganda down the throats of their hardworking team. Absolute garbage pay, total slap in the face when approaching topics around EARNED increases. Not to mention asking people to show up to the office 5 days a week, regardless of the constant conflicting messaging around the topic. These are all the result of an extremely ancient and predominantly WHITE executive team. I’m surprised IMAX has made it this far by sweeping as many of their serious issues under the rug - maybe I can put ”Great PR Team” in Pros.

Pros

Prestigious, (previously) innovative company. You get to work on interesting, high-profile content. Very good health benefits, good pension. One of those stereotypical tech companies with on-site perks like a cafeteria and video games. My direct team were all nice and good to work with.

Cons

So many people working here are miserable. It's an unspoken thing that your work day is at least 9 hours and then you are expected to be on call essentially at all times. No work-life balance, people regularly message you at 11pm or on a Sunday afternoon. VERY meeting heavy culture, most of which are unnecessary and happen just because. Senior management are so disconnected from the rest of the company and clearly don't care. The company is currently throwing money at new strategies that don’t actually make a profit just to look modern for shareholders. Sketchy HR practices. Nepotism in hiring. Low pay. No opportunities for career growth, they tend to hire new, often unqualified people rather than promoting within. Forced workers back to the office full-time during COVID just because the CEO wants it and thinks if people see offices back in person, they'll go to the movies again (???) Senior management has no direction or concept of what employees’ jobs are like. US management keeps shifting more departments from Canada to the US despite this supposedly being a Canadian company. Extremely depressing since I had so much respect for IMAX coming in to the company. Due to all of the above the company is bleeding people (the staff is all either brand new or people who have been there for decades, before the company got like this) yet management doesn't seem to care.

Pros

Working at IMAX gives me a sense of pride because of its strong brand and cutting-edge cinema technology. I enjoy collaborating with supportive colleagues and being part of exciting projects. The benefits and movie-related perks are nice, and overall, I find the work engaging and aligned with industry standards.

Cons

At IMAX, I sometimes feel frustrated by inconsistent leadership and limited opportunities for career growth. The pay can feel average compared to expectations. I’ve noticed communication issues and occasional uncertainty in company direction. Work-life balance can also be challenging, especially with changing policies and management decisions.

Cons

- Culture in the finance team is terrible.. the tone set by the CFO is ineffective and she lives in the past - Speaks a lot about teamwork and work-life balance but there is none whatsoever in the company - The company severely underpays their staff and does not match pay to market - HR team is focused too much on budget concerns and will underpay employees to achieve targets
