Awesome people, but leadership is a mess

Pros

Awesome coworkers and benefits. Had a strong start.

Cons

Leadership is a joke, especially the CEO. I have never met such a fragile male ego in my life. So egotistical and talk about pride before the fall. Humility is not in his vocabulary. The company is trying to run before learning to walk and the lending side of the business had a terrible start logistically because of it. Completely disorganized where clients and employees all suffered. Leadership needs to take a step back and really think about how to change for the better.

Thank you for the feedback. I am proud that I can honestly say I ate a big piece of humble pie and left my pride in a ditch when I wrote probably the most transparent CEO account of a company's current history in the tell-all on my personal blog at SeanBlack.com titled Knock’s Wild Ride from $2B to $220M in 12 Months, but maybe you missed it. In this case, I regret that we were unable to help you overcome your performance issues and you had to be terminated, leading to this review. But I can assure you were are working closely with all our positive, high-performing Knockstars to continually learn and improve each and every day. Here's a link to the blog post that illustrates that commitment https://www.seanblack.com/blog/wild-ride-from-2b-to-220m

Pros

Great benefits including unlimited PTO.

Cons

Great benefits do nothing for you when you're among the 46% of the company that was let go without notice and with just 2 weeks of severance pay. This company's senior leadership has no idea what they want the company to be or how to achieve any of their goals, which is evidenced by the multiple product pivots, half-assed product rollouts, and its ultimate transition to a zombie company tainted by mass layoffs and irreparable reputational harm. It was chaos working here and every day was filled with frustration across all departments regarding the lack of communication, follow-through, and resources. The complete abandonment of this company's core values when it was opportune for them to do so was a recurring theme for the leadership of this company time and time again and make no mistake - despite what copy-and-paste comment they decided to reply with to this, it is NOT a great place to work, they're NOT open, and they do NOT care about making any kind of positive impact outside of affecting the bottom line for them and their faceless investors. It is tragic that so many hard-working and dedicated people had to pay for the total lack of experience and leadership from the likes of its CEO, CFO, COO, and VP, but these are decisions they're obviously content with making, as they have leapt at every opportunity to do the wrong thing. They make movies about the psychopaths running this company.

A year ago, it would have been a different review

Pros

Benefits, flexibility, remote work, unlimited PTO

Cons

They don't know what they're doing. With their recent company pivot, it's absolute chaos. A year ago, my rating would have been 4 stars but now they just change titles and job responsibilities with no notice or training, and provide zero upward mobility unless you start out as a manager (then you can expect multiple promotions and title bumps each year). The culture would be great if they actually practiced the values they preach but any constructive feedback given is always construed as being negative and it's a very vindictive culture. No work/life balance for much of the company and they wait until their employees are on the brink of quitting (or actually quit) to make changes to fix things. They're expanding so rapidly without taking a look at how it actually affects the people who work for them. The CEO is so full of himself he insists on being in every photo that accompanies a headline about the company.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Knock is indeed in hyper-growth right now and it is true that a dynamic, fast-paced environment is not for everyone. You must be driven, resourceful and have a strong inner drive to roll up your sleeves, work hard and play harder. If you are looking for a predictable 9 to 5 job, this isn’t it! Out of 28 Managers, 17 were promoted from an individual contributor role, so opportunity for advancement at Knock exists at all levels and all departments and is available to everyone equally. Our POPSICLE values are our Northstar, being a 2020 Inc Best Work-Places recipient and a 2020 & 2021 Forbes Best Startup Employer recipient, we are constantly iterating on how we can continue to achieve these honors.
