Pros

The office is fashionably modern and located perfectly.

Cons

This place is a turnover factory of using new college/grad school graduates to work themselves until exhaustion or quitting. The firm is ran by an egomaniac who believes he is a gift to man. Avoid avoid avoid. Take your talents somewhere that will lead and appreciate you properly.

Knowledge Capital Group Response

As a firm, we value constructive feedback and seek it often – from our current employees, during exit interviews, and from our clients – and we appreciate you taking time to share your experience. We strive to be a place where every employee/firm relationship is mutually beneficial but realize that is not always possible. We are committed to our four core values, and sometimes there is just not a fit. We recognize Glassdoor allows reviews of past employers, but our firm has not had a Consultant-level employee leave in nearly two years, so the feedback seems a little stale. However, to ensure transparency and accuracy, we would like to respond to the writer’s comments. KCG’s Managing Director is a driven, direct, and passionate senior executive who expects strong performance and invests time coaching and mentoring colleagues who demonstrate promise and are committed to delivering value to those we serve. Most consultants thrive in a results-oriented environment, which is why the consulting industry supports the “up or out” approach to professional growth. We support employees in their professional development and provide regular feedback to ensure employees continue to advance in their careers at KCG. With respect to being a “turnover factory” for new grads, KCG primarily recruits experienced hires, as demonstrated by our team’s backgrounds. That said, we do have one employee who started after completing her MBA and will celebrate her 6th anniversary this year and two employees who both started as undergraduate interns and are now celebrating their 5th and 3rd year anniversaries. Again, thank you for the feedback and opportunity to respond to share more insight on our firm. We wish the reviewer well in their future endeavors and would hope anyone interested in joining KCG would evaluate the opportunity and the team for themselves.

Pros

Great office in downtown Charleston. Pet-Friendly. Snacks provided. Solid exposure to client leadership. Managing Director is a strong motivator.

Cons

There's a reason this company has not experienced much growth and is still a small 8-10 person firm. Managing Director is extremely scatter-brained in directing the course and cadence of the work his consultants produce. In my time there we churned out very few marketing pieces or white papers because the MD could not make up his mind on what he wanted. The MD tends to motivate company personnel through fear. Such terms as "you will be shot" or "I'm going to kick your ***" are directed to employees frequently in public settings. Besides the constant rage the MD directs to his employees, he frequently engages in unprofessional behavior. Compensation for an MBA graduate entering the consulting field is below market. Lack of client work and the company's need to compete on fixed fee engagements make it near impossible to hit the required utilization to collect a bonus. Recruiting tactics to attract experienced professionals and graduate students are questionable at best. I had no idea regarding the firm's instability due to the sole dependence on cash flow from a single client when I interviewed and subsequently accepted the offer. After I started working there, the MD mentioned to myself and another new colleague that we should be scared ****-less for agreeing to work for him. When we were recruiting other MBA students, we were instructed to keep these aforementioned details from candidates.

Pros

I really enjoyed the team that I worked with while at KCG. It was a supportive and collaborative environment where everyone was focused on the same thing - Delivering value to the client

Cons

The company is small and with that comes the need for employees to wear many hats. At times you weren’t able to 100% focus on your primary role because you were supporting internal initiatives.
