LIDD is essentially a group of friends running a company. These friends are brilliant subject matter experts, but that's different than being a great manager. Everything outside of 'the work' is not well developed or sustainable at LIDD for junior employees: Career, pay, organisation, transparency.
a) Pay lagger - Pay the lowest salaries in the industry, especially the technology departments.
b) Limited career progression
c) Sideways or Out - very little room to grow due to being top heavy
Political and insular
- You will get to know who is on the 'Golden LIDD Path' versus not very quickly
- Most who get promoted are Director's or Partner's favorites. Many who get hired in certain regions have personal connections to a leader. Many great consultants do not move up, have left, or were laid off or fired due to politics.
- Be careful of transferring teams and promises of 'opportunities' when getting pulled into a Partner's pet project which should have never been sold in the first place, as colleagues have been unceremoniously fired once that project finished. Peoples' livelihoods are at stake at the whim of a Partner's vanity project.
No retirement plans or bonuses for junior staff
- A company that doesn't offer match for RRSP or 401k for the Yanks is a signal the company has built-in attrition and views juniors as billable line items to be contracted or discarded quickly instead of long-term contributors.
- You are funding *their* retirement and family legacy while completely foregoing your own.
Not Transparent
- It's an open secret every December who gets bonus and who doesn't. People talk. Everyone knows.
