Pros

can get a relevant career experience

Cons

The APAC office management is unbelievably unprofessional and immature. It has a personality problem and extremely bad at managing. Also abusing its authority and position. - The management doesn't have good knowledge of the product and doesn't understand the market. Which makes it incapable of leading the team in the right direction. - Management can't understand the local culture here, so couldn't make a good relationship with the related association. Which blocked the company from developing its business successfully in the region. - Management failed at managing the official language as English in the office when there are international colleagues. - Micromanaging and distrusting people. So that it can't motivate team members. - Management lacks of ability to relate to team members which causes disharmony in the team. - Immature management. Takes everything personally, so can't make a logical and strategic discussion within the team.

Pros

Small team in each branch. A place to be with if you are passionate about regulation. Public speaking opportunity. International colleagues. Phone allowance. Overseas business trip once a year.

Cons

High turnover. Only one main product and this product is not suitable for Asia. Military style command and control by management who cannot convince staff. Keep preaching to customers about compliance and best practice but do not follow best practice within the company. Taking medical leave will be frown upon. Promotion is based on favouritism instead of meritocracy. Inexperienced management staff. Political and toxic office environment. Lack meritocracy for pay increment and promotion. No prospect due to small team. Company lacks brand name.

Pros

HQ: - The core values, work dynamic and work environment at the HQ office in Belgium are great - A lot of valuable, trustworthy and knowledgeable employees around the world who are willing to help and assist - The company has a global presence; opportunities to move around internally across the world - Good products and vision; aligned to the markets' needs SG: - As it's a small company in Singapore (3 to 4 employees, 1 boss), you can get a lot of responsibilities and be independent in your work - You can get a lot of exposure to different functions (benefit of a start-up) and end up working on multiple fronts (career experience) - Good amount of annual leave - Annual global meeting in Europe - Well located in the CBD

Cons

HQ: - Quite remotely located if you are not from the region - Needs a manager with new business input SG: - Management does not understand the products offered, the regional market or the local culture (a lot of inappropriate things happened during my tenure and a lot of doors were shut with industry players) and is unable to guide the team in the right direction or come up with a strategy - Management is not supportive and acts in a patronizing, sanctimonious, distrustful, distrusting and micro-managing way; antiquated and suffocating managing style - Management has no real experience in managing and motivating a team, hence the disharmony and highly negative work environment - There is no meritocracy; brown-nosers and people who say what management wants to hear instead of the truth are rewarded - Management continuously acts out of self-interest, for their personal benefit and to preserve a fake reputation in front of internal and external stakeholders; blames others for any disagreement or problematic situation - Management lacks transparency hence why play pretend and lying to HQ and internal departments is easily done - Management critically lacks leadership, capabilities and knowledge base - Management is unable to set clear boundaries around roles and responsibilities; leads to frequent confusion and conflicts in the workplace - No meaningful opportunities to grow within the company as there is no hierarchy and limited layers for advancement
