Pros

Good People CEO has significant technical knowledge

Cons

Training Fee Contract ~1yr ~4k As a junior dev they require you to get a mule cert through a Mulesoft training course. If you decide to leave within a year, you must pay that back with your below average salary. ~3k Awful location (terrible for employees, but great for ms3 since they can justify paying less for your hard work) Training all together is mediocre. You could learn all of this stuff in an internship at a legitimate company. COO is stingy (His penny pinching mentality leads to poor morale) Lack of control on which client you will be placed with. You could be placed with a client in the middle of nowhere or in a major city. Office is dreary and lack luster Compensation and Benefits is below average You can get locked into only using Mulesoft which can be uninteresting and frustrating especially if you are looking for a more traditional coding position.

Just to be clear MS3 doesn't charge anyone for training. You do sign an offer letter and as part of the offer you agree to remain with the company for 1 year if you go through our training program. This is clearly documented in the offer letter and the handbook so there isn't anything secret about it. Every company in the USA has this same policy this isn't something new. I had to pay back $20k for my masters degree because I didn't stay with the company long enough. If you break the agreement you have to be ready to pay the consequences. As for Mulesoft training, thats free and has been since 2019. So no we don't require anyone to pay back $3k for any free training. MS3 is a profit driven company for a reason. It's for our employees because as an employee they receive not just a stake in the company in terms of loyalty shares but we also pay out PROFIT Sharing. Every dollar that is saved gets paid back out to the employees. Thats why we have such huge payouts every year. Don't forget we also take the entire company to the Caribbean every year for a company all paid vacation. So profit sharing and Caribbean trips is why we work so hard on profitability not bottom lines or pinching pennies. I personally think that Matt and Jeremiah did a fantastic job of training you and it shows. You were able to use the skills they taught you to find another job. So you should thank them for all they were able to provide for your continued success.

Pros

Free weekend to Caribbean if you've passed the benchmarks. Peers in main HQ are talented and driven. Ping pong matches in-house are exciting and great for moral.

Cons

This place is toxic. Upper management have severe issues with how to treat employees. They believe free pizza makes up for inconsistent work from home allowances and what mandates appropriate covid precautions. There is a large disconnect between how some employees are treated vs others. COO serves as HR which is a scary conflict of interest. A previous review stated how he penny pinches and it seems dangerous to have one person serve the financial and employee interests of the company. There aren't any protections for employees. MS3 has changed health insurance 3 times This is extremely upsetting and makes getting appropriate care and benefits hard. The benefits have gotten worse. In one year at least 13 co-workers have left MS3. That is a significant percentage given how small the company is. The CEO makes inappropriate and uncomfortable comments that should be reported to HR if there actually was one. This company is smoke and mirrors. Take it if it is your only option but get out. There's no long term sanity here. Some people drink the koolaid and for their self preservation it is understandable.

Unfortunate First Job

Pros

Friendly coworkers, good conversations, opportunities for self improvement. Everyone I met there who worked at my level was nothing but pleasant and helpful to me, something I very much appreciated.

Cons

No trust between employees and management leads to a tense work environment. Oftentimes expectations are not communicated clearly enough if at all, especially in the period of training prior to client work. As other reviews have mentioned, the contract locks you in for one year and provides you with a Mule certification, something that'll only be useful to you if you plan to stay in the Mule space for the foreseeable future. If you leave before the year is out, you have to pay out the cost of the certification exam (not pro-rated, for some reason). That's a bad scenario for a first job, so I would suggest looking elsewhere if the contract isn't appealing to you. As mentioned by other reviews, the location is not ideal, as it is fairly isolated and allows the salary to be significantly below the going rate for most software developers just a 45 minute drive away in the DMV.
