Netgate has an employee rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars, based on 37 company reviews on Glassdoor which indicates that most employees have a good working experience there.
Management is always contradicting themselves. What applies to a manager will not apply to an employee, expect S*&! to roll down hill 10x. Expect your hard work to be told it's not good enough or to be told you're one step from being fired for going above and beyond the job description. Project models will change from weekly, to daily, to hourly and nothing done/programed will be fast enough or good enough.

All employees, from management on down, are held to the same rules and standards. It's unfortunate that you didn't enjoy your time at Netgate, but wish you the very best.
The owners really seems to care about their employees.
Most employees are friendly and good natured. No one minds helping anyone else when it comes to problems, even across departments.
Good company culture with snacks, drinks and a great coffee machine. Fun parties sprinkled throughout the year and general positive outlook keeps morale relatively high.
Cons
The work can be tedious and fast paced.
You'll be expected to wear many hats and come up with your own SOPs to document what you're doing.
Management can sometimes be a bit micromanaging and often lacks tact when dealing with employees.
Not a lot of growth opportunities within the company. Once you're in a position there's not a lot of other places to move, and very few supervisory or lead positions are available.

We appreciate you and your comments. Please remember you can always speak to your supervisor and/or HR if you are feeling undervalued.
Contributor-level people (especially the developers) are good
Cons
Co-founders control everything, behind closed doors. CTO is a curmudgeon with a cruel streak, won't hesitate to berate and belittle people in front of others, and relishes firing people. CEO is mean as a snake in private, and would rather fire someone than talk to them. They do the very minimum required by law, which means no severance, no stake in the company, no salary reviews.
