Pros

Hybrid work schedule. Great work happening in the Community Initiatives department. Most coworkers are friendly and patient.

Cons

BURN OUT, BURN OUT, BURN OUT. Cutting community programming, and gutting departments - despite a rising workload - and management wont bat an eye long as they can keep producing expensive shows that make will best tee up the General Director for when he's ready to move on to The Met. Most departments are understaffed and/or deal with constant turn over and we're expected to "continue the good work" despite no raises, no intervention to deal with burn out, constant manufactured urgency, and incessant micro-management. Not to mention the implicit and explicit tones of white supremacy that clearly color the (lack of) leadership decisions. Opera Philadelphia is no longer a safe place for Black, queer, and/or Philadelphians to work - which is evident by the alarming number of Black, queer, and Philly born and raised employees that have left in the last year. Most of the people making decisions here don't even live in Philly, and couldn't care less if Opera Philadelphia reflected the city that gives it its name. What a shame and a sham. It's "Opera, but different" all right, if by "different" you mean the same stuff under a shiny - kind of tacky - veneer.

Toxic environment

Pros

Friendly coworkers, interesting experiences, good hybrid schedule.

Cons

A toxic company that is declining rapidly thanks to incompetent management. Executives are overpaid yet look to eliminating lower-paid workers and other inefficient cost-cutting measures to try and balance poorly planned budgets, then twist that info for the press. Encourages employees to speak openly then punishes them for doing so. Misogynistic on multiple levels. And the biggest red flag of all: referring to the company as a "family."
