Pros

As all reviews will mention, the service users truly are the highlight of the job. Their wonderful personalities and varying characteristics make the working day fly by.

Cons

Unfortunately, that is the only pro I have to write about PCAS Kent. The faults of PCAS lie at the top, with budget cuts, inexperienced managers and a high turnover of staff. The directors will do anything to save a few quid, including trying to worm their way out of not buying first aid kits for the homes they support. Managers are inexperienced and often lack care or consideration, whilst there are good managers and team leaders, they are rare and are treated no better than the underperforming ones. As other reviews have mentioned, there are varying ongoing investigations going on, but ultimately they will be swept under the carpet and ignored as previous incidents have done so. Staff say they will not bother to report incidents anymore to managers as they know nothing will come of it. There are no benefits to working at PCAS Kent, and they even advertise that on their website and job listings, with their most prestigious benefit being a "Blue Light Card", which anyone who works in care may claim, a pension scheme (if you can even call it that) At the end of the day, PCAS Kent is a business, and as such, their own pockets will come first before the well-being of service users.

PCAS Kent Response

Hi, its always sad to read an opinion that doesn't show what we do. We have offered many explanations as to First aid across the organisation, as we are supported living and therefore working in someone else home we provide for staff and not for services as this is a residential model. We would encourage you to explore supported living to understand it a bit better. If you do work for us then you will surely know we operate an open door policy and always welcome the chance to discuss peoples issues, please do feel free to contact us directly. We will happily explain how a business runs to try and help you understand some of the constraints.

Pros

service users are good to work with, are accepting and fun.

Cons

Everything, terrible pay, horrendous management who are controlling and break the law and company policies and rules. Complaints are never dealt with correctly. If you report management you end up on the fire line. If you report a staff member everyone will know , under qualified management and staff, hiring management who are unprofessional and who cannot provide the correct support to the service users or staff members. Constant threats of CQC involvement and micromanaging staff meetings which turn into a witch hunt. Staff members always sitting on their phones and ignoring service users, constantly reporting other staff members for irrelevant things, clicks throughout the whole staff team which lead to constantly bullying and staff screaming at each other. Constant money being taken, finance keys being taken home, medication being correctly stored and administered and accusations of abuse towards residents by support workers that are never taken seriously, staff members taking service users back to their private home addresses. Money hungry company who do not truly care for the individuals they charge to be mistreated by. Hire bums to fill seats and lack competence, this company Has put me off working in the care industry for life and if anyone cares for their mental state they would avoid this company. Other services run like a dream which is shame. Management are constantly in private meetings and support workers. Support workers listening to private conversations. Support workers sitting in residents flats discussing private matters and being unprofessional, support workers laying in bed with residents.

Pros

Since I started PCAS 3 years ago, I have always been offered the support necessary to build on and improve my career, even at a young age when I first started. I have always felt supported, listened to and appreciated. The exceptional positive work and changes that have come about in the last year, are truly something to be recognised, and I am proud to be a member of the PCAS team.
