Great Company, Great People, Great Upper Management

Pros

The benefits at Power are excellent and they reward their employees multiple times throughout the year (summer hours, summer outings, annual meeting, holiday party, corporate office events, volunteer opportunities). The management (VP's, CEO, etc.) are all normal people with big hearts. They help employees in times of need & build their teams to hit their peak success. This is unlike any company I've ever worked for and I hope to retire from here. Power is truly a family company with kindhearted employees.

Cons

There is always lots of work to get done! Expect to be busy busy busy!

Pros

Union shop which follows union rules and stays current on all benefit reporting numbers.

Don’t think you’ll be taking off any time or you’ll be gone.

Pros

I've found my family here at Power! My coworkers are all incredibly talented and intelligent, and the employees here really do their work in ways that clearly reflect the company's values (do the right thing, relationships matter, find a better way, etc.)! For those coming into the construction industry for the first time, the environment can feel a bit more "old-school" than other workplaces - this is balanced for me by the feeling that the company is constantly evolving and I'm encouraged to implement and try new ways of doing things.

Cons

In the coming months and years, I hope that Power will continue to benchmark salaries for their office staff to keep compensation competitive - the operations side is certainly on par, but I've noticed turnover on the office side usually can be attributed at least partially to less competitive compensation given how successful the company is. I also would like to see it made clearer how bonus' are tied to the formal review process. Power's benefits are really comprehensive. The only room I see for improvement is adding additional PTO - especially at the entry level, it could make them more competitive and help with work/life balance. The biggest culture shift I hope to see at Power is in DEI - there are VP's, members of leadership and employees who are really driving the company's growth via community outreach and training. Construction has traditionally been an industry dominated by white men, and I see Power really leading the charge to make the industry more diverse and inclusive in an authentic and sustainable way. I think it would be even more impactful and encourage more of the white male employees to get involved if we saw more VP's and leaders get involved, learn alongside employees, and set the precedent for others.

Pros

Power offers great benefits and fun events to attend, whether volunteer events or company parties etc. There is a lot of training always available and free lunches are a perk.

Cons

Power has grown into a larger company that still operates with a small company mentality- in a detrimental way. Workplace politics and gossip are lurking behind most interactions and it is very much a boys club. Be cautious of departments that are meant to serve as a resource for employees. Compensation is typically under market and there is a lack of transparency around bonuses, resulting in only "favorites" receiving anywhere near the full amount.

Pros

Work/life balance, employee benefits, perks, general treatment of employees. They put resources into making everyone's job easier and more streamlined.

Cons

Too much gossip and there seems to be an old/new Power. The old being anyone who was around for their old office, which makes it feel like that's the inner circle and good luck being invited in. However, the Cons do not come close to outweighing the Pros.

Decent company, great benefits, watch out for HR

Pros

Good training opportunities, great benefits, cool projects.

Cons

I would advise you to NOT use HR as a resource. As with all HR departments-they exist to protect the company (not you) and any information you give…just don’t. Also, as much work as they’ve done on being diverse and inclusive-it’s still very much a white man’s world/boys club.
