Pros

It’s a name that has heritage. Huge potential. Some great people in it. Unique capabilities which could lead to new developments.

Cons

Management overload. Constant micro management. No focus on future or investment plan and huge levels of job insecurity. A senior management team that patronises yet seems incapable of achieving anything. Constant internal campaigns trying to justify why they are making so many people redundant. Nobody knows what they are supposed to be doing.

Thank you for your feedback and we are sorry to hear this. We acknowledge and recognise some of the behaviours that you have highlighted in some parts of the business and this is why we have invested heavily in listening to our people particularly through the roll out of Peakon along with continued training for our managers through MDP and Enabling Managers Training Programmes. We are ambitious and see the same huge potential that you have correctly identified and are determined to improve and address our shortcomings so would welcome the opportunity to discuss your specific concerns directly if you feel comfortable. Thank you again for your time.

Pros

Good work-life balance particularly in Boscombe.

Cons

- Bullying culture condoned and endorsed by some leaders, particularly at Boscombe. - Unnecessarily complex, poorly designed and integrated processes and build up of legacy systems combined with a lack of timely training and information about how to use them. - Divisive and backstabbing behaviours role modelled by some managers. - Everyday rudeness and disrespect is commonplace in the way colleagues speak with each other. - No concept of teamwork. - Lack of commercial astuteness including at senior levels. - Arrogance and lack of responsiveness towards customers. - Poor induction, bullying mentor who routinely publicly humiliated me and intimidating colleagues to ask questions of when new. - No exit interview. - No reward or incentive for taking on extra responsibilities. - Only 5% pay increase per level promotion resulting in some being paid significantly below the UK average for roles once in QinetiQ. No financial incentive to stay. - Please consider very carefully whether you really want to work for this company - the culture can take a significant toil on one's confidence, health and well-being.

Pros

Worked for 3 CEO's. The first was well intentioned and a decent human but inept. The second who I worked with for his entire time was a true leader that was shaping QinetiQ into a progressive organisation that had a clear mission, vision and values and was well on its way to achieving it. I have never seen an organisation transform itself in these 3 years. Working for the previous CEO was without doubt the greatest career experience I have and am likely to have as an employee and has shown me what true leadership can do.

Cons

Distinct (negative) change in culture reflecting change in CEO's. Went from progressive disciplined meritocracy under CEO number 2 with vibrant energy to a loosely run Canberra based boys ex services based boys club (some of whom are/were criminally incompetent yet operated with abandon). In a few months most of the operational gains that had been built in the years prior and discipline that had been built vaporised - talk about own goal...
