Pros

-As a driver, most of your day will be on the road, delivering and dropping off book bins as your route dictates. Depending on your route, you will only have time to drop off books when you return to the hub or you'll have a couple of hours left to help sort books when you return. -Since you're on the road for most of the day, you can listen to whatever music and or podcasts you want. Some vehicles are newer with built-in Bluetooth but others will require a Bluetooth receiver device or some other way to broadcast from your phone to the audio system. -Lunch is whenever you want it to be on route. -Pretty easygoing job overall. -You're enrolled into IMRF benefits which will net you a pension if you rack up 10 years of service inside IMRF. Fantastic option if you have been earning IMRF benefits at another job or just getting started. -The PTO benefits are very good compared to most companies. No waiting period. You have access to vacation, sick time, and personal time off when you are hired. -You have weekends off. Which seems to becoming rarer with many jobs.

Cons

-Some days can be stressful. For example, when returning from a long weekend like MLK Day, Memorial Day, etc. The load from libraries will be heavier than usual. -You may face harsh weather conditions while on route. Hot summer days or frigid winter days with a high volume load. If you don't receive a text or phone call from the higher ups to stay home due to inclement weather, it's a regular work day. -There have been examples of career advancement that I have seen, but for the most part, people either stay in the position they are hired for. This is talking about people working in the delivery hubs. I can't speak for the Burr Ridge office.

Pros

Libraries will always be needed ;therefore the library system will be needed.

Cons

The have outsourced the delivery department and many jobs were lost. Although some of the employees tried to transfer to other positions, they were not given a chance.
