Pros

The people you work with everyday are some of the nicest you’ll get to work with. Office is in a convenient location.

Cons

Sadly the list of cons is a lot longer in the current climate at REA. - The culture has taken a nosedive over the past few years from my point of view. Internal culture check-in survey results reveal this but management and human resources continue to bury it with what is working well instead of addressing the problems raised. - Constant restructuring with employees asking “when” and not “if” they will be made redundant. - Instability at the Executive LT level with 4 members of the ELT vacating the business in the last 12 months. This further drives more restructuring and even less security for employees. - The company has seemingly become increasingly determined to offshore as many roles as possible to India and the Philippines, at the expense of losing employees with extensive knowledge of the business and its processes/products. - Internal opportunities are becoming increasingly rare

Pros

Good compensation, beyond that, the experience was outweighed by organizational issues and politics.

Cons

The company is plagued by constant reorganizations, creating an environment where employees never feel secure in their roles. High-performing engineers can be let go with little warning, while management continues to restructure teams without addressing the underlying issues. Politics often outweigh performance, and employees who challenge decisions or offer different perspectives may find themselves at a disadvantage. Years of knowledge and experience are lost through repeated layoffs, only for the same cycle to repeat. Most of the tools and processes are proprietary, limiting the transferability of the experience outside the company. Offboarding is impersonal, with access revoked immediately, preventing proper knowledge transfer or even the chance to say goodbye to colleagues.

Talented team but declining culture and morale

Pros

The most talented people I've ever worked with.

Cons

Company has undergone multiple restructures in recent years, resulting in the loss of many experienced female employees and a noticeable decline in morale. The culture feels very different from what it once was, and there appears to be a growing disconnect between senior leadership and employees. Career progression has become more limited, with roles increasingly consolidated despite messaging around above-market remuneration. There is also a growing sense of role instability as REA continues to expand its offshore operating model. Someone was made redundant 6 months into their role, which is one of the sadder stories during the most recent restructure. During restructures, redeployment processes can feel opaque and employees may have limited consultation about changes to their roles or career paths. REA still has many exceptionally talented people, but in my experience the organisation has lost some of the culture and energy that previously made it such a great place to work.
