good salary and benefits comparing with other Japan research institutions plenty paid holidays good work-life balance really world-class research in some areas

Cons

few interactions between different teams or different centers. can be overly bureaucratic. But I guess that is inevitable for a Japanese company. no transparency in how to get promoted or become a permanent researcher. So be ready to find another place after two or three years.

Pros

Includes housing allowance and transportation commuter pass for full time employees. Plenty of social groups to join supported financially by fund.

Cons

Excessive bureaucracy which is typical across Japan. Working hours tracked excessively, lunch forced to be taken from 12:00 to 12:50 for those not on discretionary work schedule. Campuses are often far out of city centers with very little around meaning you are forced to eat in campus cafeteria which is expensive and not tasty.
