Excellent place to work, but not perfect

Pros

Incredible culture focused on building and maintaining a team of high performers. Everyone you work with is smart, invested in being a part of the team, and growing themselves. Many great benefits, including stipends for workspace, wellness, and professional growth.

Cons

While the company has a great product, it seems that the leadership team is struggling to identify the right long-term market fit for them. This has led to mid-year strategy pivots several times over the last few years as they attempt to cater to one type of customer or another. This can feel jarring to front-line employees

We understand how difficult our reduction in force was for you. We are committed to making Redox a great place to work and that includes the the financial health of the company. Unfortunately 2022 was filled with unexpected changes that forced us to adjust our plans in ways that we could not have expected and impacted many highly valued team members in the process. Please reach out to me personally if you'd like to talk further cdrew@redoxengine.com. Chloe Drew, Chief People Officer

Pros

- Great work / life balance (but there's on call for your team + the whole of eng) - Hardcore culture (half pro / half con) - Good benefits: $500 wellness + 1K productivity fund each year

Cons

- Steep learning curve if you've never worked in healthcare technology. - The culture is intense. I likened it to a cult when I first joined. You need to be careful what you say, how you say it, and be prepared to respond to the question "how does that make you feel". - IT is sloooooooooooooow and needed to be constantly reminded to do things. - Certain team members flat out do not work. They're never online and don't pick up tickets, but no one seems to care. - Code quality is low. They have some incredibly smart and talented developers on the team, but it seems that during code reviews there's an emphasis more on being kind than quality code. - Retros are painful (every other week). They're mostly just awkward silence. - Retreats are strange. Given how long they've been doing them, you'd think they'd get the online portion better. It turned into an online only retreat with Hurricane Ian and the vast majority of people complained of "magical dude". A normal person could have deduced based on that terrible name it was going to be bad. The biggest reason why I would not recommend this place are the lies from the CEO. We were told multiple times there was enough money to last through to the end of next year and wouldn't be doing layoffs. Then came two rounds of layoffs with the larger one across all departments a couple weeks before Christmas (note they're still actively hiring). The announcement was made on Slack via a pre-recorded video that he read from a script. It lacked empathy and was very matter of fact. You shouldn't have to be prompted to read "I'm sorry". Everyone received an email within 30 minutes to let them know whether they were being laid off and that was it. They were originally planning on doubling the size of engineering. How do you go from doubling to laying off in such a short amount of time?

Thanks very much for this candid feedback. These are some great areas for us to pay attention to so we can get better. I am particularly sorry about your experience around the layoffs. Last year included some unexpected changes and we had to make some very tough decisions to ensure the financial health of the company - and sadly that included saying goodbye to talent team members we care about. Thanks again for your input about your experience and we'll take all this to heart. Chloe Drew, CPO

Pros

Smart, capable colleagues who genuinely try to do good work • Competitive pay and solid benefits • Interesting space with real potential if leadership got out of its own way

Cons

• Leadership is driven by ego, not strategy—creates constant chaos and lack of direction • Executive team operates in a silo with little transparency or accountability • Decisions are reactive, inconsistent, and often feel personal rather than business-driven • Culture of fear and favoritism—psychological safety is low • Ageism is a real issue, particularly impacting experienced employees (especially women 40+) • Performance management feels arbitrary, with unclear expectations and shifting goalposts • High turnover driven by leadership behavior, not employee performance

Great Tech—Horrible Culture

Pros

- Solid tech - Great benefits - At the lowest level, great people

Cons

- Terrible Micromanagement - If you question or push back, fear of retailiation - Culture-very clique; if you aren’t in the “in crowd”, you will find yourself jobless; leadership promotes and buys in to this (even encourages) ignoring feedback on toxic individuals due to tenure or being personally liked - Same standards don’t apply to everyone at the same level - Lost a lot of industry knowledge recently

Pros

Great pay Work from home Guilt-free vacation time Some people seems nice

Cons

Overkill hiring process that sets expectation of a company with a fantastic culture, amazing energy, etc. Big disappointment in reality - the org is still figuring out things like Communication. And yes, communication within the company is bad - people do not respond. Very frustrating! Despite such thorough recruitment process, there are toxic people (with all the screening, how did you get there???) Onboarding exists but not too informative. On an early day I was given a list of performance and deliverables expectations for "30 days in", "60 days", etc. - I just got here! How come I already own so much?

Thanks so much for this feedback. One of our core values is to have a Growth Mindset and we are going to pay close attention to your input so we can get better. I am particularly interested in your experience around the 30-60-90 day plan. We tend to find these plans give Redoxers clarity around key milestones as they onboard, but we'll dig in to make sure they are achieving our goals around clarity and alignment. Chloe Drew, CPO

Pros

Not a whole lot I would recommend. Flex time off is all I can think of.

Cons

I've provided other reviews about this company, but they keep disappearing. I worked here for about 10 months in 2022, and it was hands down the most toxic, unbearable career experience of my 40 years. Redox acts like they're so important, but they have no market share. The product they offer can be easily replicated by experienced engineers. The leadership acts friendly, but business practices are dishonest. High school culture, cliques, micromanagers. I felt ancient at age 40 - it's all 20 years olds so they can underpay. Decent benefits, terrible pay, no HR processes to speak is if you have an issue. Constant layoffs. Would never, ever recommend.
