Pros

* An Engineering team that prioritizes writing high-quality maintainable code. Codebases grow over time & sometimes existing patterns are no longer feasible to continue following, so the team members are encouraged to bring these issues up so we can address them. * A solid Product team. Every Epic is well researched & well thought out. The context of the problem we're trying to solve is always given before starting feature work. The Product team is very forward-thinking so possible future features or asks get communicated as well. This is important because it allows Engineers to make the best possible decisions & minimizes having to redo things in future work * A solid customer base that is growing quickly 🚀. Which is a good sign of Product-Market Fit. 👀 * The work we do is very meaningful, the software/processes we're building is helping solve the labor shortage in agriculture in America because through the software we're building we make the H2A Visa process simpler & easier which as result allows employers to onboard a lot more farm workers.

Cons

At the time of writing, Seso is about 2 .5 years old. At this point It's pretty common in startups for them to have pivoted at least once or twice because they're just trying to figure it out. I list this as a con because when this happens it's an emotional rollercoaster & as a result you slowly start to lost motivation to continue working for the startup. This is NOT the case here at Seso. The founders here saw the problems in the industry & have executed beautifully on them. We know where we are & where we want to go. Working here is like compound interest, everyday just keeps getting better. Ok the above is actually a pro haha. Some typical cons that Seso is still prone to: * processes are still being defined (normal, & hey as an early employee you get to help build some of these) * we may throw you in the fire (overtime onboarding gets formalized) * we're fully remote so building interpersonal relationships is harder (this is actually a pro if you're an introvert haha)

Pros

The team is comprised of some of the smartest and most capable people I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. The product is incredibly solid and is truly solving some serious problems for our customer base. Long term vision is well thought out.

Cons

There is zero appreciation of the dedication almost every employee has for the goal and company. Benefits are lackluster, there is no culture, and zero effort to make employees feel seen and heard. You are made to feel privileged to get to work at Seso. The team never discusses wins and achievements, only gloom and doom. The goals and expectations set by senior leadership are beyond unrealistic. Every team and employee is constantly under IMMENSE pressure to hit goals and targets that are not based in reality. There is a constant state of panic and fear of job security. Ever changing goals and plans is expected in startups but the level of whiplash here can make you question your own intelligence and abilities. We gather so much feedback from consultants and other companies leaders that it can muddy the vision and plans we set just a week prior. I’ve never worked somewhere with so many meetings. It is truly bizarre. Meetings about the meetings. Senior leadership is far too connected to the day-to-day. Micromanagement on week over week metrics from C-suite. Little to no trust in the team despite no reason for lack of trust. Teams are over-scrutinized despite constantly hitting a new high every quarter. Leadership and managers are more concerned with metrics than truly assisting with the job.

Pros

This place is growing - you'll have moments where it can feel overwhelming. All the projects everyone is working on, it's a lot. Constant hiring - it's exciting to see all the new teammates, especially in engineering. 'Extreme independence' mindset - teammates are all around capable it seems. The hiring process is very pragmatic, they really do 'work with you' for the day and it selects for good coworkers. Excellent 'remote work' company culture. Huge (bordering obsessive) focus on communication in public Slack channels, you'll have a lot of 'slack calls'.

Cons

Often intense. It's a very young company and the team is seriously growing. The constant hiring comes with growth pains - team organization/remote culture is still being figured out. Very 'remote work first' company culture means a big emphasis on Slack communication. It's not an 'office first' culture - but there is an office in downtown San Francisco office, its nice to visit
