Great Product - Problematic Leadership

Pros

The product has incredible potential for profitability and a positive environmental impact. I believe the company can be very successful if it can figure out how to scale its operations. Like at most start-ups, there are a lot of opportunities for individual growth. If you're willing to put in the time and effort, you can get a lot out of the job.

Cons

The company is run by founders who have strong technical skills but no experience running a company. Senior leadership predominately hires managers who are while males with similar personalities to them rather than people with experiencing growing a tech company. This creates a deep-rooted culture of favoritism, toxic masculinity, and high turn over rates. However, the problems I mentioned are specific to certain departments. They may or may not affect you depending on the manager you have.

Pros

The overall product is a very interesting and compelling piece of technology

Cons

The Production Team is lead by some of the least competent and disrespectful people I have ever worked with. From the C level all the way down to the individual leadership, that team is broken. If you like to feel respected, heard, and treated as a human being DO NOT risk taking a job that falls under the Production Team. I have the upmost respect for Richard Jenkins and the product that he has created, but there are definitely other people causing lots of harm while bringing little to no intellectual contributions to the organization.

Pros

In the bustling landscape of corporate environments, Saildrone stands out not for its flashy perks or cutting-edge technologies, but for it most valuable asset: its people. Joining the team is more like joining a tightly-knit community of passionate professionals.

Cons

Saildrone presents itself as a prime example of how toxic office politics and a lack of accountability can erode employee moral and drive away talent. Stepping into this environment, one immediately senses a pervasive atmosphere of blame, overshadowing any potential positives. Accountability is a foreign concept at Saildrone. Mistakes are rarely acknowledged at the organizational level; instead, blame is often shifted onto individuals who are made scapegoats for systemic failures. This lack of accountability fosters a culture of fear and defensiveness, where employees are more concerned with covering their tracks than with addressing root cause or learning from mistakes. Unsurprisingly, Saildrone struggles with high turnover rates and difficulty retaining talent. Employees, weary of the constant politicking and lack of support, quickly grow disillusioned and seek opportunities elsewhere. The companies inability to create q supportive environment leads to a revolving door to staff, hindering productivity and perpetuating a cycle of disfunction. Oh and not diverse at all. Very little women and even less people of color.
