Pros

Scott Insurance is a very supportive place to work. They are concerned with not only professional growth, but also personal growth. They create an atmosphere that encourages every employee to strive for excellence. Scott has a significant "we're all in this together" view of business, significantly driven by the ESOP structure. Scott is more than just a place where you come, do your work, and leave: They really work towards cultivating connections with your fellow employee owners, clients, as well as the community.

Cons

The Insurance world is typically more traditional when it comes to business structures. Scott is slowly moving away from that (think jeans Fridays and short work weeks from Memorial Day to Labor Day), but they still have a lot of room to grow, especially with their work from home policies. The only other con I believe is a reoccurring problem at Scott is the lack of diversity: Scott lacks diversity not only in upper management, but a company as a whole.

Pros

Prior to working for Scott I was in a corporate environment and what I learned very quickly was how little I was valued with my prior employer. In my career, I've never worked for a more caring, compassionate, and considerate company. Being an Employee Owner creates a whole new level of pride within the workplace, and not just for me but for each employee. At Scott we work very hard. There are no short cuts in what we do. We've been around for more than 150 years and we want to see this company succeed for the next 150 years.

Cons

As a new person coming into the culture at Scott, there's an adaptation period that takes place. The Scott culture is different than most. The Employee Owned structure makes our hierarchy very flat. That can be uncomfortable for some people who have come from a highly structured organization. We are all owners, so the mentality of "how things should work" is more open. This may sound nice to some; but to others, it can seem like lack of leadership or governance.
