Pros

The only "pro" is that after some time, and if you are liked well enough, you can do the job from home. Of course they lower your pay if you choose to work from home...

Cons

To begin, I would have to say this is the most blatantly racist company I have ever seen in my life. The culture is probably 90 percent African American and 10 percent everything else. Not a big deal...except when it comes to promotions. As a long time employee, I was up for a promotion 3 times. Finally off the phones, woo-hoo! Except in the end, other, less qualified candidates were promoted over me. Now, if these were people that had been there for years and worked towards a promotion, great. However, most of the people promoted have been there less than a year. I cant help but think that there is some sort of discriminatory practice occurring, especially since all of the supervisors at this company also happen to be African American. I can think of less than 5 people that are in a role other than on the phone that are Caucasian. And the ones that are have been there for years and years and had to apply several times to get promoted to anything other than "agent". The pay is ridiculous for what you have to go through. When hired, I was told that I would take about 40 calls a day from consumers regarding comments they had. Not bad. The truth though, is that you take double, sometimes triple that. And these are not "comments". The calls are full blown complaints. Thats right-you listen to people complain ALL day. For 8 or 10 hours straight. They curse at you, yell at you, call you names. They expect you to take care of their "issues", however, this is not "customer service" and no issue gets resolved. You file a "report" about their complaint and thats it. No resolution. Which means that they complain some more. The break schedule is laughable. 2 ten minute breaks and a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Its the same whether you work 8 or 10 hours. So, in total, if you work a 10 hour shift, you have 50 minutes away from the complaints. All of this for the grand total of 11.00 an hour to start, 11.50 after 6 months and then a .25 cent raise yearly. And by the way, that raise caps out. So after a few years, the most you can make is under 13.00 and hour. Still with me? The management is awful. Supervisors that have no education. No special training at all. In fact, a lot of them started as "agents" and were promoted to supervisor within a few months. Thats right folks. Begin as a customer service rep, and after a few months, supervisor. Of course, these "supervisors" dont really supervise. As far as I can tell, they sit in their offices and gossip and write people up if they they are not perfect on their calls. So..bad management, bad pay, bad environment, discriminatory. Still want to work here?

Pros

The call center is open 24 hours and if you need extra hours they are usually available.

Cons

The management is horrible, they have nasty unprofessional attitudes and they sit around gossiping. The managers nitpick and criticize everything you do. So never expect to receive positive feedback. None of the managers should have their positions because they don't know what it means to be an effective manager. The pay is ridiculously low and the breaks are pitiful. The managers do show favoritism, they will yell at you and pick on you if you don't stand up for yourself. Even if you do stand up for yourself nothing gets done because HR is uninvolved and doesn't really care. The managers don't communicate with the staff unless there is something wrong.

Pros

Not one good thing to tell.

Cons

Low pay. Barely enough to make bills. The cap is $12.75/hr and that's not nearly enough for what you go through daily. People call to complain about any and everything. They'll describe their bowel movement to you if they think the food made them sick. They curse you out, make racists comment, and just talk to you like you're nothing. Sertec's policy? You must always remain friendly despite the bs. If you get angry, you're written up. You'll suffer depression and anxiety. You'll be guilted into working OT. You'll hate your coworkers. The ones who get ahead are tattle tales and guess who they have their eye on... You. They'll tell ANYTHING to make themselves look better and get that promotion to a big $13 an hour. The breaks are only 10 mins, lunch is 30. A few minutes more and you have to have meetings with supervisors. New hires work holidays. They may say you won't but they base this on who puts in the application first. New hires would be last. Health insurance is an HMO and its terrible. No dental. No vision. No holiday party. No sick days. Only five holidays off with pay. Vacation is a joke. It doesn't roll over and you have to work like 5 years for 40 hours. Supervisors are okay mostly but the call center manager is not. She only cares about making sure the calls are taken. Nothing else. Not understanding or friendly. No education whatsoever. She does not know labor laws. She dropped out of community college. Have a complaint about her? Great. Email her boss. You'll never get a response. There's a call center side of the office and an administrative side of the office. No one on the administrative side cares about anyone in the call center. Some even refuse to say hello when you pass them in the halls. Like they're better than you. And you start to feel that way. Ashamed and embarrassed at what you now have to do to earn this minuscule little pay check.
