Pros

• Management at Fort Greene • Usually more than part-time hours • Education • Automatic Tips

Cons

• Super Lazy yet always complaining management for Assistants/Front Desk • Old head toxic salon environment- Pretentious stylists yell and berate you all shift and usually are the ones who tip you out the least. • Old heads always gossiping about coworkers, crab bucket mentality not supportive. • Carrol Gardens Clientele are majority wealthy suburban house-wives and their children making it feel monotonous. • Owners/Management live elsewhere in country which is just a reminder that this doesn’t have a local charm although salon locations are in two Brooklyn neighborhoods… it’s a Corporation ran like a corporation you’re just another number to them which is why they have high turnover. • Management is always taking weeks off of work but won’t even allow you to call in sick. • Long 10-12 hour shifts even when salon doesn’t have clients and you barely get a 10-15 minute lunch break because you’re always tasked with some busy work such as cleaning or organizing someone else’s mess. • Got the ick when I watched numerous middle-aged stylists literally jump and skip for joy when they heard management fired a talented single mother stylish they just didn’t get along with.

Pros

coworkers and support staff are kind and good people

Cons

The employers are predatory liars. they claimed they were busy and that i would make money. after months of empty books they hired even more stylists without enough business to go around. they then blamed me for having an empty schedule.

Pros

Cute working space. Nice neighborhood.

Cons

Melissa Soon promises that you’ll be busy and expects you to sit in her salon all day without taking any clients, then doesn’t compensate you for your time which is illegal! Do not waste your time, this place is always hiring for a reason, cuz they can’t keep employees. Your commission may seem reasonable till you realize you’re being ripped off from then beginning with high backbar charges. The place is over staffed and you’ll be competing with other people waiting around. Why should the owner care? She doesn’t pay you to wait around so it’s no skin off her teeth. And your not allowed to leave but once for lunch during your 10 hour shift. If you’re required to sit there all day, with or without clients, by law you should be making at least minimum wage. That’s not the case at Soon. You’re another number, and your needs will never be met. The salon is first and foremost, and you paying your rent doesn’t mean squat. I’m surprised This place hasn’t been closed by the labor department for breaking labor laws. Seriously, save yourself the trouble and find a nice place that’ll be fair in how they compensate you.
