Pros

- opportunities to learn new things, take on more responsibility, build your resume. Generally, if you try at all you will be given chances to take on any dept you wish and to advance. This can be a super great thing, especially if you’re just starting out in the work force. - everyone is treated fairly equally here - sometimes you get free food - great view of the river - really fun Christmas party. They rent out a bar and have open bar all night plus dinner and Ubers home. - some people are given the chance to travel to escort patients home or to go on marketing trips

Cons

- with the added responsibility (that you will no doubt get, because out of about 20 people at the company at least one quits or is fired per month), you will not get a pay raise and will almost always be doing the work of two people. You will also be scolded if this requires the company to pay you overtime. - the equality that is experienced here is really just based on everyone being equally treated like trash. - the PTO policy is not generous to begin with, but even worse is you can’t use it. A day off must be scheduled a month in advance. Are you sick? Need to go to the doctor? Good luck. They won’t let you go unless you call in sick so they can’t stop you. Then they will demand a doctor’s note and sometimes your actual medical records for proof you are sick. Any time you need even an hour off, the owner assumes you’re interviewing. This is because working there is so awful, almost everyone IS interviewing. You would think this fact would be a wake up call, but it isn’t. He just decides every single person he hires is the problem, and not poor management. - there isn’t enough parking, so most new hires will be forced to park outside the shipyard (they don’t tell you this in the interview). This means a 10 - 15 minute walk to the building, which obviously adds a lot to your work day. It also means you can’t really leave for your 30 minute lunch. To walk to the office, you have to navigate through a busy, dangerous shipyard. Since you are walking on the footpaths, you aren’t given any personal protective equipment to do this. - management frequently decided most of the staff does no work, despite the fact that everyone is always quitting so the remaining staff is overworked and often new and not even trained. Their solution is to hand out charts that you are expected to use to track literally everything you do. - If you go to the bathroom and stop to exchange two sentences with someone on the way back to your desk, you will be reprimanded and asked why you are wasting time. Some people hide in the bathroom to text message or cry. You see someone break down into tears at least once a week. - salaried staff aren’t really allowed to take lunches. Even hourly staff don’t always get them, but it is more frequent. I saw salaried staff pressured to always work through lunch. Managers rarely left their desks except the owner, or in the case of management having secret off site meetings.

Pros

The view from the office

Cons

Overworked staff is the trend. They spread individuals far too thin. This company has an extremely high turn over rate. They will terminate anyone that won’t play into their company politics. Everything is extremely unorganized, and you’ll spend your day working in fear that you’re next to be fired, even when you’ve done nothing wrong. Awful benefits, and don’t even think about taking pto or a sick day when you’re actually sick. The owner will accuses you of being on an interview.

Stressful, confrontational management

Pros

Non management staff are the best petiole you will ever meet and for putting up will being over worked, under paid and not trusted my management they are incredible humans.

Cons

Management is not experienced to deal with problems. Management talks a big game and makes a lot of promises that never happen. HR is new but has already shown they only have management’s interests in mind. Overall they say they care about their staff but they work people to their breaking point and wonder why their turnover is so high. They take any complaint made as an attack and then reprimand the employee who said anything. During my time there employees were afraid to speak up because of the consequences. Apparently it’s gotten worse since I left as well from what my friends who still work there tell me. They spout on and on about how they change peoples lives but honestly they charge so much money (even for free vaccines) and pay their staff average money for literally working nonstop from beginning to end. My current job pays me $5 more for doing 1/4 of the work. the new manager is really aggressive and confrontational and was part of the reason I left. There came a time when it became to stressful, the pressure, the lack of feeling valued or recognized, management making you feel guilty for taking personal time off that I just quit on the spot. best decision ever.

Thank you for your feedback and I'm sorry you did not have a positive experience. We are very fortunate to have incredible, hardworking people at SphereMD! Serving an underserved population and changing lives is difficult work and can be stressful. I'm happy to say that we are already doing most of the things that you have suggested! We do our best to support our team in a variety of ways from a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous paid time off and paid holidays to cash bonuses. Sometimes it is the little things, such as providing a meal now and again and celebrating each person’s birthday that shows we care. In addition, we recently promoted 4 internal staff members who showed outstanding knowledge and commitment. This is a challenging and rewarding role that works well for people that are hard-working, enjoy fast-paced work, and care about making a difference in people's lives. I’m sorry this wasn’t the right fit for you – thanks again for your comments and best of luck to you in your future!
