People often assume that the benefits for TNBR employees are the same as those for TNB employees since TNBR is a subsidiary of TNB. Unfortunately, this is not true. If you want to work at TNB, don’t assume that starting at TNBR is the best gateway. You may be disappointed by the disparity in benefits between TNB and TNBR employees. If your goal is to work in TNBR for RnD, aim to enter through the TNB route—get employed by TNB first. After a few years at TNB, you will have a higher chance to request a transfer to TNBR. This way, you can still enjoy the benefits of a TNB employee while engaging in RnD. Avoid entering directly through the TNBR route, as you will be classified as a TNBR employee with significantly fewer benefits than those in TNB. TNBR's business model heavily relies on RnD grants. Following certain restructuring within TNB, RnD grants have become harder for TNBR to obtain, negatively impacting financial performance and resulting in very slow career progression. Many TNBR employees have been stuck at the same pay grade for almost ten years, the same level as when they were fresh graduates, despite good performance. Moreover, many long-term TNBR employees remain on contracts with no prospects for permanent roles. Despite the good work-life balance, many employees stay at TNBR due to falling into a comfort zone trap (I'm one of them), making it hard to leave. They often feel miserable, especially after seeing most of their friends resign from TNBR for better roles elsewhere, not being trapped by the comfort zone that holds back those who remain at TNBR. The only people who enjoy working at TNBR are fresh graduates/interns, as they benefit from having "TNB Research" on their resume, and seasoned professionals with 10 to 20 years of experience elsewhere, who join TNBR just to settle down. Others in TNBR have given up on the conditions, doing the bare minimum to complete tasks without any excitement or motivation.
